Daniel Callahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2024.
Daniel Joseph Callahan Jr., a devoted family man and respected community member, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, in Raleigh,

North Carolina. Born on March 12, 1935, in Cornwall, New York, to Daniel and Elizabeth Callahan, Dan was raised in Kingston, New York, where he graduated from Kingston High School.

Dan began his professional journey with IBM, a career that was briefly interrupted when he was drafted into the Army. He served honorably in Germany before returning to his position at IBM. In September 1957, Dan married his high school sweetheart, June Yvonne Lowe, embarking on a lifelong partnership that would see them raise four children together.

In 1978, Dan and June relocated to Cary, North Carolina, a place they quickly grew to love. Dan was an active volunteer at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and contributed to the Catholic Parish Outreach, demonstrating his commitment to his faith and community. Reluctantly, due to a chronic illness, he had to step back from these roles.

Dan is survived by his sister, MaryBeth Callahan, and brother, Vincent Callahan. He leaves behind his children: Susan Kinane (Matthew), Daniel Callahan (Robin), Lisa Bullock (Brad), and Stacey Ellis (Todd). Dan was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He is predeceased by his wife, June and infant son, Martin.

A funeral mass will be held on December 6th at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, located at 804 High House Road, Cary, North Carolina. Interment will follow immediately at the Columbarium. Dan's legacy of love and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him.
