Dear Mr. & Mrs. Gorrell,
Dan was on the debate team at AFHS. I had the honor to be his coach as well as coaching many of his friends. I remember him fondly and his desire to win and learn. I am so sorry for his passing especially at a young age. I was very proud to read of his success. My prayers are with you. God bless,

Dear Gorrell Family,
I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am about your loss. Dan and I were friends in high school, and though I have not seen him for a few years, I have thought about him often. He was such a fun kid and I will always remember the great times we had at debate tournaments (we were partners), with our friends and with each other. My prayers are with you and your family.

I graduated from the Law School this year, and over the past few years I had the great pleasure of getting to know Dan.

Dan was a busy man. He always had something to do, somewhere to be.
But Dan never let that stop him from stopping and helping a student, professor. . . or anyone.

He was always helpful and patient with us, even when we were helpless and impatient with him.

No matter what else he had going on, Dan always stopped to help. I'll learn from that. And I know others have learned from Dan.

He will not be forgotten, and he will be missed.

I was a fellow class mate of Daniel's from Elementary thru High School.
My deepest heart-felt condolences go out to his family, girlfriend and beloved son.
Rest in Peace Daniel.

I worked in the law library last year, and saw Dan almost on a daily basis. He was a great guy to be around, and always very helpful. He was also very involved with some of the student groups, particularly WLC with his girlfriend Misty. I know he will be greatly missed within the law school community and beyond.

Dan truly enriched my life as a student of the SJ Quinney College of Law, and as a dear friend to his love, Misty Hayes. We shared many memorable times together, both that I can share and some that I should not.

My love is with Misty at this time who was on her way out of a troublesome time with Dan's love and support.

Cheers to Dan; klink-klink.

Jerry

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your son Daniel today. I really wish I could attend the funeral and offer my sympathies to you and your family personally but my wife and I now live out of state and will not be able to make it back to Utah in time.

I know that there are no words that will soften or make sense of the loss you and your family are feeling at this time but I am a firm believer that there are no accidents in this life and everything happens for a purpose, even though we often do not understand it while we are living through it. Hopefully the day will come when all the tragedies of this life will somehow make sense.

Jerry, I hope you know that I still owe you a great debt because you were there for my family and I during our darkest days. I will never forget everything you did for us and I sincerely hope that you will call upon me someday if there is ever anything that I can do for you or your family.

Your friend Always,

Linda Ottley

Dear Denise and Jerry,
We were deeply sorry to hear of Dan's passing. He went to school with our twin daughters and graduated the same year.

Knowing the Gospel Plan is especially poignant at times such as these, knowing we can look forward to a glorious reunion with friends and family again. Our prayers are with your family and his son and girlfriend. May the Lord bless you with peace in your hearts and love in your home and may the memories you have made together fill the empty spaces for the time you are apart.
Love, Dale and Linda Ottley

I first got to know Dan when we started a Clarion User group at the University of Utah. The moment I met him, I found a very kind and loving individual, one who made those around him feel special. As I had opportunities to work with him, I saw a very talented and dedicated man who was always trying new and innovative way to meet the needs of those he served. Because of Dan’s skill in writing software, he was hired by our department to create an application we use on our web site. During one meeting, Dan was telling us about his son helping him and how much he loved him and how he struggled to be a dad and at the same time meet all of the other demands that were placed on him. I will always remember his great smile and cheerful laughter. I will miss him and I am sure he will be missed by many.

I met Dan years ago at the CALI Law School IT conference in NC. There was just something about him that made him stand out in a crowd. I knew that he would become a good freind. Through the years, we got to know each other a whole lot more. We would often call or IM to keep in touch. I was always impressed with his constant love of life and his desire to do crazy things with clarion. Dan was a great guy. The world lost someone special with his passing.

This is Daniel's cousin, Lisa Frisco Johnson. I am so sorry to hear of this loss. I do wish I would have been able to know him more. I do remember times when Daniel was little though, he was the most adorable kid!! Such an awesome smile too! I wish the very best to his son, Denise and Jerry and the rest of the family. My prayers and heart are with you.

The Daniel I remember was very cute and very smart. He was quite young when we first moved to Utah but we were able to visit Jerry, Denise and the 2 boys quite often. Daniel was very active and absolutely adorable.
I had forgotten his middle name was after dad. I'm sure they are getting aquainted and sharing stories with Uncle Jerry, Dad and the grandparents.
I am truly so sorry you and the kids have to go through this. In time the pain doesn't go away but the acceptance begins and you can go on day to day. I am sure you will see him every day in his son's face and eye's.
Love so much, see you on Friday.
