Daniel Hagedorn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 2, 2025.

Daniel Joseph Hagedorn, a proud and lifelong resident of Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away on November 13, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on March 15, 1957, he was a native son of Royal Oak, deeply rooted in his community.

A graduate of Bishop Foley High School's Class of 1975, Dan (Danny) went on to complete his education at RETS Electronic School. He was known for his strong work ethic and was a valued contributor to his employers throughout his career.

Dan will be remembered for his unwavering kindness and generosity. He exemplified these qualities as a devoted caregiver to his father during his final years and as a steadfast friend who opened his home to those in need. His compassion left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was resolute in the love of his family.

An original member of the Royal Oak Boys Club during the 1970s and 1980s, Dan also served as a Big Brother in Oakland County, demonstrating his commitment to mentoring and supporting others.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, passionately following Detroit's teams-especially as a loyal Lions fan for over 50 years. He is well known for hosting his friends for Lions watch parties every Sunday for many years. On the golf course, he was a fierce competitor who relished the game. He loved to play golf in Northern Michigan.

Dan was part of a large and loving family that included 50 first cousins. He is survived by his brothers Allen, Robert (Christine), Patrick, and his sister Nancy (Dick Fidler), along with four nieces and one nephew and 40 of his cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Earl Hagedorn and his niece Hayley.

Services for Dan will be held on January 18, 2025 at an 11am Mass at St. Thomas Moore Church in Troy followed by a memorial service and luncheon beginning at 12:30pm at the Jack & Patti Salter Community Center (formerly the Royal Oak Boys Club) 1545 E.Lincoln , Royal Oak, MI. All are welcome to share memories and stories of Danny.

Danny was not just our neighbor, but our best friend. We will deeply miss his smile and wave in the driveway, the quick over the fence talks in the summer, the long party nights, the garage football games, the fireworks, the debates over The Beatles and Stones, and all the little moments in between. He filled our lives with music, and incredible stories, and love. He was a huge presence in our lives and we miss him more than we can express in words.

Love always,
The Joniper Family

Dan has been a part of the Siegfried Family since the Boys Club days where he met my brothers Kurt & Karl. From then on Dan was my brother Kurt's best friend up until Kurt passed away unexpectedly in August of 2021. Dan recently told me him & Kurt were the first 2 to become Big Brothers in the Oakland County area mentoring young boys at the club & teaching them different sports. Dan was the most loving & considerate person toward everyone he met & was passionate about helping those in need. He had such a calm personality & didn't let any situation get the best of him. Dan will be missed by all. My heart goes out to his family & circle of friends.
