I am so sorry for not making it to the viewing or the funeral. I have not been going out much until I get this Shingles under control. I want your family to know how terribly sorry I am for all of you. It sickens me to think that you will not have your husband, dad, or grandpa with you any longer.
I hope that you guys can hang onto your beautiful memories to try to help you get over some of the pain. Realize that Dan would never want you all to be sad for long but to move on and be happy and be assured that he is up there wrapping his arms around each and everyone of you keeping you safe and wanting you to be happy and successful. Hold onto one another and stay close. I know Teri is going to need you more, even if she says she doesn't. Her whole life has just changed and it is going to take years to get over all the normal things she used to do with Dan and all the Holidays that you all have done together with Dan. It will be gut wrenching.
I love your family, I will continue praying for you, hug your mom tight Kate, love, Judy

Daniel Michael Hanson was my nephew. Danny lived with Mom, Dad, Janice and I while my brother Edward Hanson was stationed in Turkey. After my brother's divorce from Danny's Mom, Irene Krogman, Edward was transferred to Rapid City, South Dakota where my sister Lorraine Hanson and college room mate Sylvia Schumacher were teaching school.
We all loved Danny very much and were so very sad when Edward and Sylvia married and moved to California. Danny was such a handsome young man and brought such joy to our family; we missed him dearly.
When I married Stan Cornforth, he was stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona; we lived in base housing. Once when Edward came to visit us on base Danny ran and jumped into my arms; I just filled with tears (this is exactly what he did when he lived with us in Watertown).
When Stan was discharged from the military we moved to Flagstaff. We went over to California as much as we could to see Danny. My!
brother Edward was very active in the Lutheran Church and he and Danny actively participated in the Boy Scout Program. When Danny achieved the rank of Eagle Scout Edward flew us in his private air plane to California for the ceremony.
When Edward and his family died in a plane crash in 1982 outside of Flagstaff we went through the Red Cross to find Danny and bring him home. He was stationed at an Air Force Base in Japan.
Danny lived with us for some time after this, then was assigned to Luke Air Force base in Phoenix.
We love and miss our dear nephew.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
Look up the definition of Team Leader in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Dan... he was a true people person who knew how to talk to people and didn't have I'm the team leader so respect me attitude... in fact he would help you when you needed help.
Dan and I became great friends and he and I both served in the Air Force... we often talked about things concerning the Air Force and just everyday things... even though people got mad... neither of us cared, he was just an all around great guy.
He has left a major void at work and I will miss seeing his hard hat with the Detroit Tigers and Lions symbol driving the fork lift at work.
Dan you touched a lot of lives and thank you for your service Brother... you have earned your wings fly free... RIH

Although I didn't know you well, you were always kind to me, and you graciously shared your wife and son with me. I crerish them both as family. I hope the sadness that your passing has left will be dimmed by the joyous memories that you left. Hugs and love.

Going through old photos today and remembering Danny as the sweet little boy who lived with my sister and me (Aunts) and grandparents (Eddie & Dorothea Hanson) in his early years in Watertown, SD, while his father was in the Air Force. My sister Sherryl and I were both kids ourselves then and loved entertaining Danny inside or outside in our large backyard where we had a swing, sandbox and a teeter-totter that his father Edward built.
Danny was always a sweet boy. Sherryl and I and our parents (his grandparents) greatly missed him when Edward and Sylvia decided to move to California. Visits never seemed often enough or long enough.
Our hearts all broke when Danny's parents (our brother and his wife), his sister Cathy (our niece) and his brother Doug (our nephew) were killed in the plane crash on the way to visit Sherryl's family for Thanksgiving in Flagstaff.
Hoping the family can unite again. He will be welcomed with open arms.
Sending love to Danny's wife, children and grandchildren. He will always live in your hearts and ours.
