Daniel Hurley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 16, 2023.
On November 4, 2023, our world lost an incredible human being, who was often described as "one-of-a-kind." Daniel Hurley, 71, was born February 17, 1952 in San Francisco, CA. He was the second of three sons born to Earl and Rosalie Hurley. The family moved to Reno, NV in 1963, where Daniel attended Hunter Lake Elementary, Billinghurst Middle School, and graduated from Wooster High in 1970. In 1972, he married Diana (Hulse) Hurley, and raised their four children together in their home in Sparks, NV. Although they divorced after their children had grown, they remained life-long friends.

After graduating, Daniel attended automotive trade school in Phoenix Arizona. From there, his lifelong career was in the automotive industry; from being a mechanic, to running a gas station with his Uncle Chester, to opening his own car lot, and finally working as a wholesaler. He loved what he did, and being his own boss, and built many incredible friendships over the years.

Dan was a member of the Masonic Lodge #32 in Reno NV, where he served as a master and a past master. He fondly recalled fishing and hunting trips of his youth. In his later years, he loved golfing. He played countless rounds at Plumas Pines, in Graeagle, CA, where he had his summer home. If he wasn't selling cars or spending time with his family, he was likely hitting the links, or playing poker with his friends at the Alamo. For his 70th birthday, he checked one off the "bucket list" by playing Pebble Beach with his son and son-in-law.

After a short, yet brutal battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully in his Sparks, NV home, surrounded by his family. Daniel was preceded in death, and will be joining in heaven, his parents Earl and Rosalie Hurley, and many dear friends, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brothers David Hurley (Mary Lee), Scott Hurley (Andrea), mother of his children Diana Hurley, and children Jeffrey Hurley (Brianna), Joshua Hurley (Heather), Joel Hurley, and Megan Hurley (Marko Boscovich). He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored more than anything: Danielle (Jax) Costa, Desiree, Payton, Mason, Mercedes (Matthew) Ogle, Korbin, Alexis, Kaitlyn, Ian, Brayden, Jesslyn, Addison, Brody and Irie, and his great-granddaughter Azalea, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Daniel lived his life by own his terms, and accomplished everything he set out to do. He raised his children, watched his grandchildren grow, traveled, golfed, and had a great time doing it. He will be remembered for his hilarious (although sometimes crude) sense of humor, and tell-it-like-it-is personality, but mostly for his kind and generous soul. He will be missed dearly, but will live on in our hearts for eternity.

A celebration of his life will be held November 19, 2023 at Red Hawk Golf and Resort in Sparks, NV at 11:00 a.m.
