AMESBURY — Daniel B. Merrow, Jr., 93, lifelong Amesbury resident, died Monday afternoon, April 26, 2010 at his home in Amesbury, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Newburyport, Feb. 28, 1917, he was the son of the late Daniel B. and Edith S. (Morrill) Merrow and was a graduate of Essex Agricultural School.
Mr. Merrow founded the family business, Merrow's Inc., back in 1939, and after retiring in 1975, at which time he turned over the business to his son, he still remained a big part of the business until his death. He was also an auxiliary policeman with the Town of Amesbury. Before starting the family business he worked as a milkman for the Kinney Farm, at the Amesbury Hat Factory and CBS Hytron in Newburyport.
A loving husband and father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marie S. (Steere) Merrow; two sons, Robert S. Merrow and Christopher P. Merrow and wife Joanne; two daughters, Susan Merrow and Julie Davis and husband Ron; nine grandchildren; Alan Page, Robert Merrow, Jr., Carrie Krupka, Scott Merrow, Syrena Merrow, Peter Merrow, Jennifer Duff, Christina Davis and Lauren Davis; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles S. Merrow; and several nieces and nephews including Charles "Chip" Merrow, Jr. and Marcus Merrow. He was predeceased by a son, Daniel B. Merrow, III.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, will be Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 2 to 6 p.m. A memorial service for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday. Following the memorial service, all are invited to attend an informal celebration of his life at Merrow's Inc., 100 Haverhill Road, Route 110, Amesbury. By request of the family, interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Pettingell House, Inc., P.O.B. 5551, Salisbury, MA 01952; Our Neighbors Table, P.O.B. 592, Amesbury, MA 01913; or to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.

Dan was a good friend to my late dad
James R Armstrong they shared an interest in collecting antique gas
engines. Dan and Marie were good friends of my parents and were often
at our farm at Pleasant Valley of later
