Rest in peace, Danny. As a classmate and '61 grad, I so enjoyed watching you on the BB court. You were one of our Bulldog heros. I know you'll be with us on our 50th HS Class Reunion. God Bless to family and friends who loved you.

My thoughts are with your family today. It is always difficult to loose a loved one...it seems we are never ready for the loss. I have wonderful memories of Danny and he was a valued friend. May your memories bring you comfort. Lin Stadler-Perry

On behalf of my mother, Dorothy Mae Behrman, and me, I would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family. I went through Lutheran School and Columbus High School with Danny and knew him quite well. Because I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan, I cannot attend the visitation. Mother is unable to come. However, I am thinking of Danny's brother and sisters, because Eileen is my aunt, I used to babysit for Charlie's children, and I knew Rosie and Lucille. My thought and prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Donna Behrman Watkins

Dan meant a lot to me. My grandmother Marcella Smith married him years ago and I became his grand daughter. I still call him grandpa Dan to this day. The last time I saw him was last year and we talked for awhile and he kept calling me Cheryl. He awalys said we looked so much alike and that i reminded him of her in some many ways. He always made silly jokes to me. When I was little My grandma, him, and me would bake together and have so much fun. I know that I will miss him and I know that other family and friends will also.

The last time I talked with Dan was at the Bill Stearman reunion about 14 years ago. He was as sharp as ever. Good looking, great personality and a warm smile. We played basketball together for CHS and he was a good leader and was liked by everyone. I am certain he will be missed by all of his family and friends. Regards, Jay Shumaker

I am so sorry to hear about Danny. I always had an affection for the Noltings even though I was never close friends to any of them. I guess it started back when I was a kid of 4 or 5 and lived around the corner from Susan Settle and played with her. In high school I remember her and Butch as "steadies" and remember first Butch then Danny playing on the basketball team and Susie as a cheer leader. I guess I got to know Charlie because he was Sheriff back when my dad was prosecutor then later Judge. In the early 80's I lived at the farm house on River Road just north of Charlie and remember stopping to see him once in a while.
To me the Noltings have always been on of the pillers in the community and always lived a good upstanding life. It is sad that both Butch and Danny were taken so early in life.
Sincerely and with much sympathy,
Sidney H. Showalter II (Sid)

"THIS WE'LL DEFEND" - words inscribed on the heraldic device of the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant's Identification Badge. Had it not been for Dan Nolting's understanding of those words and the real impact of what they meant, individuals - such as myself - would not have been able to carry forward and share those words and meanings with many other soldiers as Army Reserve Drill Sergeants.
Since 1974, one regret of mine is that I was never able to make contact with my course Tac NCO, Drill Sergeant Dan Nolting, to let him know how much I appreciated his guidance, leadership and willingness to work with me while I was attending Drill Sergeant School. That period of time has had a long lasting impact on everything I have done in my life. I remain eternally grateful to him for all that he did for me.
I "Present, Arms" to Daniel L. Nolting... This We'll Defend!
