Daniel J. O'Connell, age 86, passed away January 9, 2025. Beloved husband of Margie (nee Leslie). Loving father of Colleen (Jerry Gibbs) O'Connell, Julie (John) Cruse, Theresa O'Connell, Daniel (Mary Kay), Michael (Joann Wong), Eileen (Ron) Swanner, Carrie O'Connell, and Tim (Molly) O'Connell. Cherished Papa of Graham, Elliot, Shannon, Marty, Katie, Kevin, Kelton, Casey, Brianna, Cade, Jack, Megan, Brendan, Timmy, and Charlie. Dear Brother of Bob (Laura), the late Jack (Denise), and the late Bill (Amy) O'Connell. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Loving Brother-in-law of Tim (the late Susan) Leslie, Mary (the late Jim) Finn, Richard Leslie, Bill (Marianne) Leslie, and Joany (Tibaldo) Alvarez. Friend of Bill W. Member of USW Local 17u (Decorators Union). Former Executive Director of the Chicago Cook County Criminal Justice Commission. Dan was a loving and trusted friend and mentor to many. His love was often shown through food and restaurant recommendations as well as gifts of donuts and chocolate. Dan was a devout Catholic, centered by his faith. Memorial Visitation Friday, January 17th at St. Barnabas Church 10134 S. Longwood Dr. Chicago 9:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Mass 11:00 a.m. Dan's request was to make an Anatomical Gift to his beloved Loyola Medical School. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brother Rice High School (Attn Development Office) 10001 S. Pulaski Chicago 60655. Arrangements entrusted to Donnellan Funeral Home, 10525 S. Dan was an outstanding dad. I've dealt with hundreds over the years and nothing could distract him from loving his kids. My own dad anticipated this when he told me, "Just remember. To a father, his daughter is always his darling!" What a great man.
