Malcolm ‘Corky’ Maxwell of Downingtown Malcolm “Corky” Maxwell, 70, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at his home. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Lloyd R. Sr. and Carolyn Coen Maxwell. Following his mother’s death, Corky was lovingly raised by Caroline Logan Maxwell. Corky proudly served his Country at the Naval War College during the Vietnam era. He attended Villanova University and the University of Miami, and received his degree in business from Fisher College in Massachusetts. Corky was blessed with a gift to build relationships with people, which he leveraged in his career as a sales professional; and he was a friend to many. Corky loved the game of golf and was a former PGA of America club professional. He played with enthusiasm and a competitive spirit until his stroke in 2008. Corky was a loving father and brother and a very proud grandfather. Corky is survived by his daughter, Karen Maxwell Powell and her husband Jason; three brothers, Lloyd R. Maxwell, Jr., Sandy Maxwell and his wife Deborah and Scot Maxwell and his wife Kimberly; a sister, Parmie Battin and her husband John; three grandchildren, Elisabeth, Caroline and Madeleine Powell and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig A. Maxwell. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2015 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia, c/o Impact Services Corporation, 1952 E. Allegheny Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19134 or thefirstteephiladelphia.org. The program introduces kids to the game of golf, while teaching life values and building character. I met Corky about 10 years ago, he was a friend of my uncle's and when he found out i wanted to buy a new car he told me to come see him. He sold me my car , got a great deal on it and he contacted me quite often to make sure i was happy with the purchase and to remind me it was time for the car to be inspected. He was a quiet and kind man and was a very caring person.

Corky was my best friend in our childhood years. Now he will join Randy Bowman and Bob Mason. We were the Bradford Hills bad boys. We had a lot of fun. I have great memories of Corky. God Bless.

Thanks for all the years of golf that I got to play with you. You were the Golf Nazi but a wonderful man to play a round of golf with. Thanks for the memories.

Uncle Corky, growing up you gave great hugs, and always had something nice to say to me. One of my best childhood memories was, our get togethers at Aunt Mamie's house playing whiffle ball in her backyard. So many laughs, and fun times had by all. Now you can play ball with Craig, my Dad, and the rest of the family members. Enjoy! No more sadness, or pain. Run free, and happy. You will be missed. R.I.P until we all meet again.
