Daniel Wolf Persky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2025.
Daniel Wolf Persky, age 49, passed away on June 24, 2025 from an unanticipated accident. Daniel graduated from the University of Chicago Laboratory High School in 1994 where he was active in Amnesty International. He went on to Oberlin College where he was a core member of the student senate. He received his BA from Oberlin, and then his MA in planning and JD from the University of Iowa. Following his graduate education, he worked for Senator Carl Levin (Michigan) and then for Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn. He then moved to the Active Transportation Alliance. For the last decade he has worked in the health sector, first at the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM) and since 2020 in grants administration at the University of Chicago's Departments of Neurology and Psychology. Dan had a lifelong interest in Chicago and has been a docent for many years at the Chicago Architectural Foundation. Dan loved bike riding, camping, exploring Chicago, but most of all, raising his 2 and a half year old son Jonah. Dan was always ready for new experiences. While somewhat reserved he had a dry wit and a warm heart. He will be missed by many. He is survived by Jonah, his two parents, Joseph and Victoria Persky, and sister Nicole Sylvia Persky. A memorial service will be held on November 1, 2025 from 11 to 12:30 at the University of Chicago Bond Chapel, 1025 E 58th St, Chicago, IL 60637.
