I met Danny whilst working on the Barrow pop proms during 1997/98. As sound engineer at the forum 28, I was quickly amazed at just how quite like sinatra Danny sounded. His ability to cheer us up during rehersals and his good sense of when humour things didn't alway go right we most welcomed. I think I join most of the 'crew' in saying that Danny created an unforgettable atmosphere both on and off the stage. Although I only worked with him on a a couple of occasions my thoughts go out to yvonne and her family. May the legacy of his performances live on as do the memories of his unforgettable voice!

I was very saddened to hear of the loss of Danny Patterson. I remember him s well and learnt a lot from him in the time I knew him (many a year ago) from observing his love of life and how he lived it to the full, every day. He truly was an individual - always kind, never judging, always smiling and full of mischief - and my recognition of these qualities at the age of 18 had an influence that lasted. I suppose from his platform as a great singer, he saw everything about human nature, amongst all those crowds, in the lounges like the Victoria Park Hotel and on the many other occasions Jeff and I accompanied him to his events in the Lake District at weekends. When Danny sang and looked out into the crowd, he really did appear to sing to everyone, and for that moment, made them feel very special. I remember that about him. His talent, his warmth and an ever so knowing presence that touched everyone. I've never forgotten Danny in all these years and never shall. Regards and warm wishes to Yvonne, Jeffrey and their families. Andrea Cassidy

I only recently heard the news about Danny’s untimely death. I worked with him in the mid 70s and although I continued to see him on trips to Barrow, these gradually became less frequent and we eventually lost touch. But I never stopped thinking of him and recalling some of the fun times we shared at Interental in Dalton Road. I still can’t see a Fox’s glacier mint without his image popping into my head - and an upturned cigarette butt with a column of dead ash always makes me smile. Danny was one of life’s true characters and although incredibly sad at his passing, I am grateful to have known him. He will be remembered fondly by all his family & friends and his legacy will be the stories we share of an incredibly unique, warm and funny human being.

The one thing that used to amaze me about Danny was that when he performed he somehow managed to be singing to every person in the room individually, a true show man!

While, like many others here, I remember Danny from his Flamingoes days, my strongest memory was the only time I ever got to play with him. Back in the Eighties, the local musicians would take a night in between Christmas and New year, to let their hair down and play the songs they wanted to play. Usually at the Queen's at Leece (Now the Copper Dog) with the John Doe Band providing the gear and anchoring the evening. I was lucky enough to back Danny on the song "Route 66", which we played regularly as a rock song. Before we started, he began clicking his fingers and said, "do it "Swing" style". It was the best version of that song I ever played, with a true Pro exhibiting his natural, relaxed style. He will not only be sorely missed, but more importantly, fondly remembered.

I have just learned of Danny Patterson's death. I remember him fronting that great trio, The Flamingos, with Tommy Halfpenny and Terry Turner in the late fifties. Whenever l hear 'The Party's Over' and 'Moon River' it sends a shiver down my spine and I remember Danny. A great singer who changed my life.

The first time I saw Danny was when I was 14 and working at the Victoria Park Hotel...I dont remember much about those nights only that the lounge bar was always full of people enjoying themselves...In the years to follow I was privileged to hear Danny in full voice on many occasions and more recently in Yvonne's many evenings of song... He did have that "something special" and such a sense of ease about him ... there's no doubt he'll be missed but maybe Yvonne will keep a few of his favourites going...sincere sympathies to all.

I've had time to reflect now on the funeral this Monday and the support shown for Dad and the family. I'll never forget the sight of everyone there in the church when I stood to say a few words. The musical tribute at the Vic was just what Dad would have wanted including the lobster jokes from his 4 yr old grandson Isaac!Thankyou everyone for making the day a fitting tribute to Danny and thankyou Barrow for the praise and kind words. Keep the music playing. That's the way Dad would want it to be. I'll miss you dad.

What a wonderful turn out for Danny's service yesterday where there was standing room only. A very solemn and dignified musical send off, totally befitting of our 'long standing' local musical hero, but which was also interjected with humorous stories from his close friend and fellow musician Brian Judge, and Danny's own family.
One could hear a pin drop when Danny's grandaughter very bravely and beautifully sang one of his favourite songs for him. A very moving moment where I am sure Danny will have been looking down with so much pride.
Danny, you set a big bench mark for all local artists to aspire to (and which we thank you for), and you will be fondly remembered for many years to come.
Good night and God bless to a great guy who was a good friend and mentor to many.

I am Danny's daughter Yvonne and I was told about the entries on this site and that I should read what everyone is saying about my dad, I can only say thank you to everyone from myself and my family. My dad would be overwhelmed by all the lovely things his friends have said about him. He just loved to sing and meet people and his warmth, humour and great singing was obviously appreciated by so many. We are all still in shock that he is no longer with us but knowing how much other people cared for him and will miss him too helps us a great deal. It is particularly lovely to hear from relatives we have lost touch with. I hope they will contact me again, it would be lovely to catch up with them. Perhaps you can leave contact details with the Evening Mail? Thank you so much everyone my dad would be so proud and we are so proud that he was so well thought of.

Danny was not only a singer but also a top Painter and Decorator,i worked with Danny on the Hospital Board in the seventies every day was show day jokes in the morning songs and golf stories in the afternoon. When we started a new job he would say to me AL GO IN THAT ROOM AND TEST IT FOR SINGING.
I remember one time at Roose Hospital Danny was praticing his golf shots in the field behind the hospital the ball went straight through the sisters office window, Danny rushed in and ask her if she had seen a Dunlop 65.
Thanks for the memories Danny

Danny was my uncle (my dad Jack’s younger brother) and, apart from the sadness on hearing of his death, my regret is that I had been talking about looking him up and visiting with my daughter in a couple of weeks as I hadn’t seen him in a long while. As my daughter Natasha is training at a London theatre college ready for a career in musical theatre she really wanted meet him. I have very fond memories of my uncle Danny and reading all the tributes makes me very proud that so many people thought so much of him, although sad that I hadn’t really kept in touch as I got older. My best wishes go to Yvonne & Jeff and also his companion Jean.

I'll never, ever forget Danny's singing, especially of "Angel Eyes". It captivated me when I first heard it, with Brian Judge on flugel, Sid Patterson on keyboards, - and the two Roys, I believe - at the Conservative Club in Barrow.
From then on, whenever we could, we would come to hear Danny ; and he would catch my eye and sing "Angel Eyes", just one more time.
Sophie and I shall never forget Danny, so easy to talk to and such a fabulous singer, so free and easy, and with an attention to words I have rarely known.
Thank you, Mr Danny, a matchless singer and a gentleman. We shall miss you.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Danny's family and many friends.

Danny, oh what a sad loss I will miss you so much. I have nothing but fond memories of Danny, playing with the band, having a drink or two and putting the world to rights often late into the night. That special thing that stars have; Danny had it!
I learned so much working with the master, thanks Danny you will never be forgotten.

Danny was married to my cousin Joan. He came to our wedding as a guest, and entertained, as only Danny could, at our evening reception. I also remember him singing with The Flamingoes at The Imperial and at Vickers Sports Club in the early 60's. Reading the tributes to him in this guest book has brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my wife Pat's eyes. Danny was a true family man and friend. He will be missed but always remembered with love.

Danny could relate to anyone of any age which is evident from the range of those paying tribute. The respect he enjoyed and deserved is a measure of the man. Danny shared his talent with everybody and we are all very thankful for it. Take it to bridge, Danny

I've personally known Danny for around 5 to 6 years when I started hanging out with his grandchildren Daniel and Yvonne Victoria Serra. However, Danny has been a constant name in my family, as he was a close friend to my grandad, the late Tommy Halfpenny. This is a sad loss to Barrow, losing one of the last of the true Barrow performers. Although he has been ill for some time now, and I believe now Yvonne, Daniel and Vicki - who can always talk to me if they need to - and all Danny's family can rest easy knowing Danny is no longer in pain. A legend who'll live on, I just hope Heaven can cope with both Danny and Tommy.
