CONOVER – Daphne Marie Childers Bowman, 83, of Conover passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 21, 2009. Born June 6, 1925 in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Eugene Harrington and the late Elsie Childers. Mrs. Bowman was a member of Shiloh United Methodist where she also taught Sunday school. She was a volunteer with Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry (ECCCM). She loved to teach knitting and crocheting. Daphne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and Christian who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert P. Bowman; sister, Muriel Elder and brother, Darryl Childers. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Steele and husband, Steve, of Claremont and Nancy Sipe of Conover; sister, Dorothy Kerley of Taylorsville; brother, Wayne Childers of Morganton; grandchildren, Nick Steele and wife, Lisa, of Taylorsville, Lynn Steele and wife, Debbie, of Hickory, Gretchen Keller and husband, Ronnie, of Newton and Carrie London of Conover; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Thacker, Steven Ray Steele, Ronnie Keller and Teman Keller; great great-grandchild, Christopher Thacker; and dearly love nieces and nephews. The celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2008 at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Claremont at 4 pm with Pastor Ron Lytle officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jesse Smith, Jr., Steven Steele, Ronnie Keller, Hugh Sipe, Nick Steele and Lynn Steele. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:30 – 3:45 pm. The family will gather at the home of Mrs. Bowman following the burial. Memorials may be made to Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry, 245 East N Street, Newton, NC 28658.
