Darlene Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25, 2009.
Darlene Marie Anderson, 58, died peacefully Oct. 20, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center after a long battle with liver disease.

A service will be at 1 p.m. today in the Maplewood Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a viewing from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. Darlene will be laid to rest at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery immediately after the service.

Darlene was born Feb. 10, 1951, in Biddeford, Maine, to Rene Provencher and Marceline Leighton. She was a precocious little girl who loved books, cats and singing with her dad and grandmother. She grew up in Maine and Connecticut, singing so well that as a teen she won a scholarship for advanced vocal instruction while living in Wallingford, Conn. Later she met and married Ronald H. Anderson in March of 1967; they became parents of seven children: Sandy, David, Kathy, Michael, Suzanne, Stacy and Edward.

She moved to Alaska permanently in 1976. Darlene and Ron began a property management business in Anchorage that ran successfully for 20 years. She was also a top salesman for Zales Jewelers, Morgan's Home Furnishings and Williams & Kay Furniture.

Her love of music continued all her life and she enjoyed duets and solos in church and the community. Darlene was a member of "Alaskapella" in 2004 and played a lead role in the 2005 production of "Annie" in the Mat-Su Valley. She loved Broadway musicals and performed in "Music Man" and "See How They Run" in the mid-1970s.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Ron; sons, David, Michael and Edward; daughters, Kathy and Suzanne; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Steve Butch; and grandchildren, Courtney, Dean, Zachary and Alex Butch.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Stacy.

In the middle 70's I worked for Ron while we were both in the Army and thru him met Darlene and the children. I was always welcomed in their home and shared meals and laughs with them on many occasions and felt like part of an extended family. Darlene was enormously gifted, caring and always cheerful. My heart goes out to all her friends and family. This was a lady who made an impression on all who knew and loved her.

I had the pleasure of being Darlene's hairdresser and knowing her was an honor. She would always bring her smile and of coarse her wit along with her. I LAUGHED AT HER FUNNY JOKES EVERY TIME. She loved her family very much as evidenced by her showing me pictures of them every visit. She would brag on the fact she had such thick hair and that her children have inherited it. I will miss Darlene tremendously. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

Our family was blessed to know the Anderson's over 20 years ago. She was always willing to give of her time and talent to family, church or friends. Stacy has waited a while to be with a family member so I am happy it is with her mother. My heartfelt condolances to Ron and the children, you have been through trials and you will with Heavenly Father's help and your friends and family strength and love you will also make it through. Our family prayers and thoughts are with the Andersons.

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Darlenes' family and loved ones. What an incredible loss for you all! Having lost my own Mother only 6 months ago I can honestly say...when you loose the Mother of a family, you loose the heart of the family. I know that Darlene loved each of her children truly with a Mother's heart. I also know what a glorious reunion she is having with Stacy right now and together they will wait on each of you to join them.
Again, our deepest condolences on the loss of your Mother and friend! May the Lord bless each of you in your hour of needed comfort is our prayer.
