She was born in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1947 to Lawrence Bentley Grantham Sr. and Betty Jane Kline Grantham. Darlene attended Northwestern High School before studying secondary math education at University of Maryland, College Park. Upon graduation she began her 40+ year career at Montgomery County Public Schools, working at numerous schools including Wheaton, Churchill, Seneca Valley, and Northwest, along with a couple years at Computer Technology Services, before retiring in 2010.
Darlene was a cherished sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend. She loved Maryland sports, reading, and crocheting afghans, scarves, and hats for her loved ones. She also enjoyed selling them at craft fairs.
Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Grantham Jr. and her brother-in-law Wayne Johnson. She is survived by her sister Barbara Johnson, sister-in-law Linda Grantham, cousin Donna Fowler (Guy), nieces Jennifer Gross (Billy), Kelly Saraceno (John), Lisa Reddington, Lauren Rivera (Ever), nephews Greg Grantham (Tricia) and Michael Johnson, and 12 great nephews and nieces. The service will be held at Beall Funeral Home (6512 Crain Hwy Bowie, Maryland 20715) on Friday, October 13, 2023. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with the service following at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation toward student athlete scholarships with the University of Maryland's Terrapin Club Impact Fund in memory of Darlene.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
