Darrell Moffatt Obituary
Darrell leaves behind his loving wife and soulmate of 50 years, Maureen (Merschitz). Loving father of Larry (Rhonda) and Daniel (Carolyn) of Ottawa, and Janet Abeling of Courtney, BC. Proud grandfather to Dillon, Casey, Emily, and Miranda of Ottawa, and Shawna and Jordan of BC. Great-grandfather to Jesse, Tyler, Parker, and Marley of BC. Darrell also leaves behind his loved sister Carol (Rodgers) of Cambridge, ON. Darrell will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews and their families, as well as his sisters-in-law and their husbands and families out West.
Darrell had a career spanning 38 years, in both the Canadian Air Force and the Federal Government. He left high school at the age of 17 to join the military, but with his love of learning he later pursued a degree, attending classes evenings and weekends, graduating from Carleton University at the age of 49. Darrell was a lover of sports, and in particular was an avid downhill skier.
Darrell will be missed by his good friend Olly Karkainnen. He will be missed by his friends and neighbours at the ski chalet at Mont Ste. Marie, Québec. He so enjoyed the laughter of the coterie of ladies attending Maureen's annual ski-weekend at the chalet. He will be missed by his neighbours at the cottage on Lac à la Barbue, near Gracefield, Québec, Pierre and Gillian Corbeil and their families, who became best friends over the course of 36 summers at the cottage. Darrell and Maureen could not have continued their life at the cottage, especially in recent years, without Pete. Darrell's brother-in-law, Con, was also a big part of several projects at the cottage. A special note of appreciation, too, to Darrell's youngest son, Dan, for all of his much-needed help over the decades at the cottage.
In keeping with Darrell's wishes, there will be no funeral, visitation, or service. .

Dear Maureen,
Our deepest sympathies to you Maureen and your family. You and Darrell have brightened our lives each and every time we saw the two of you for over 40 years. Always smiling and a story to tell. So many memories to cherish. We love you both.

Dear Maureen,
My sincerest sympathies to you and your family! You and Darrell have been in my life for many years and to know he won't be around any longer is very sad. He will be forever missed, and together with you, family and friends, we will enjoy all the memories of him at the cottage and the chalet. Dear Maureen & Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences respecting the loss of your beloved Darrell. I have many memories of the fun times we shared together in the 70's at your lovely home in Ottawa. Darrell was always a wonderful host, but most of all, he adored you.
Please know that my thoughts & prayers are with each of you during this difficult time & hopefully, our paths will cross in the future perhaps when I'm visiting our dear friend, Lois M. in Ottawa.
