DARREL
Am now sure you are too much in peace with the LORD to ever return to this worldly life of struggling.
You are MISSED by your Tanzanian friends and colleagues.MEMORIES OF our duty tour at SAINT JOHNS ISLANDS IN CANADA in 2012 are always there. PLEASE REST IN PEACE.

August 23, 2016

They say that time and tides waits for no one!
Surely the times are at a standstill when the project you spearheaded in Tanzania is still in still waters and your gap is conspicuously vivid.
We miss you DARREL and we hope MIA has survived your demise and that life may go on though not the same!RIP

It can be so hard to face the new year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

A year has almost gone by. I never wrote anything before, simply because I never knew what to say.

My first memory is falling down the stairs, I distinctly remember those aluminium edges on the stairs in our old house. I remember tumbling down and the sound that it made, and how afraid I was right outside your room.

I wanted to go see my big brother because I loved him and wanted to be with him. I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that absolutely nothing has changed in the last 41/42 years I still love you and want to be with you.

P.S. The Grey Cup was fantastic I thought of you the whole time I was so happy but I cried a lot.

I Love you

I just found out about the passing of this honourable man whom I knew for over a decade. He was always concerned and worked for the eradication of poverty, particularly among young women. Occasionally, he even made his own contributions to their well-being in the distant lands from home. May you rest in peace Darrell!

I think of you and your family often. I know how much their life has changed without you. I pray they can be strong enough to carry on and see the good that is still around them.

Toronto Star Feb. 12, 2013. I have read that morning in Toronto Star about Darrell's death. It was a very sad day today for me and my wife. We new Darrell well. I used to work with Darrell for CIDA International East -European projects in Romania between 1995-2001. We had a lot of plans and dreams together - to retire and to continue to travel and to work on international projects. On my way to Alaska this summer I cross the prairies and I was thinking about him and his Ucrainians ancestors. His blue eyes were like a part of the Saskatchewan sky, hopes and dreams. He was born and lived there for a good part of his short life. We exchanged some e-mails over the Christmas. He was so happy and proud travelling with his daughter south for vacation. We planned to meet each other in the spring. The life is full of unpredictable and sad events that cut off our dreams. We will never forget Darrell with his friendly smile, deep soul and blue infinite eyes looking over prairies horizon to find out the sense of our friendship and existence.
Darrell, we will never forget your friendship and generosity, your spirit, hope and Saskatchewan dreams.

Dearest Brother

You never said I'm leaving,
You never said good-bye.
You were gone before I knew it,
And God I don't know why.

A million times we've needed you,
A million times we've cried.
If love alone could've saved you,
You never would have died.

In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place,
No one else will ever fill.

It broke our hearts to loose you,
But you didn't go alone.
Part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.

Love you always, Glenna

My deepest sympathies to Monique and Mia. The premature passing of a loving husband and father is always so difficult to comprehend. Years ago Darrell was excited about joining the World Bank and contributing to the eradication of poverty worldwide. I thought the idealism was charming, and media reports about his being in Ghana on business when he passed away suggest he died with a dedication to that cause which he so honourably lived by. I hope you rest in peace Darrell, knowing that many people's challenging circumstances were improved by your having come and gone. While there continues to be inequality and poverty in excessive abundance, I thank you for demonstrating, in your own way, that there is justice in the world and reason to be optimistic for the future.

My sympathies to Darrell's wife and daughter. Having known Darrell for a number of years long ago, he always struck me as being one of those lucky few who had the ability to mix his career and travel with pleasure, right up to the very end. Darrell, we had some great adventures in Tanzania, Edmonton, and at the IPAC conferences these past few years. I often joked that you, Suzanne and I were the three musketeers at IPAC events. You were a dear part of my IPAC family and I can hardly imagine that I won't see you or work with you on our projects again... I was looking forward to hearing about your retirement adventures... all that you had planned. You will be sincerely missed my friend.

Such a sad farewell, Darrell, will always remember you and cherish time great times we had together. I've been a close friend of Darrell's for 40 years, meeting across the street from his parents place, on the golf course, where someone in the group suggested that since we were the same size it made sense we should have a fight. Fortunately in those days, wrestling seemed to be manly enough, so we rolled around on the ground for a while and that was that. I can only think of one other time we had even a disagreement, and that was in our younger days, over a girl I think, LOL. We did a lot together, were each others Best Man twice, and even though you moved East and I moved West, 25 years ago, we still found a way to get together a time or two each year. The high school reunion last summer and our recent trip to Vegas are even more special memories now. Rest in Peace, my good friend, love You!

My sincere sympathy to Monique, Mia, and all members of the Prokopetz family on your loss of a very fine man. I knew Darrell when we worked together at HRDC back in the mid-90s, and even traveled together once to Ukraine where we had a barely memorable evening of celebration with our Ukrainian hosts! We were planning to reminisce about that occasion this summer when Darrell expected to be in my new home town of Comox. I am very sad to know this decent and honorable guy is no longer with us. Everyone who knew him will remember him with affection and respect.

Monique and Mia, and Darrell's family members, I was so sorry to learn of Darrell's passing. He and I worked together in HRDC 15 years ago and I have warm memories of a dedicated and capable guy. We traveled to Ukraine on a mission and barely "survived" an evening of celebration with our Ukrainian hosts! He was a fine human being and an honourable civil servant who will be missed by everyone who knew him.
