Darrell Robinson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2025.
Darrell Keith Robinson was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 6, 1962, to

William and Mary L Robinson. The family moved to Plainfield, New Jersey where his early family life included his 3 sisters: Anita, Nancy and Meredith. There was an abundance of family; cousins, siblings, and beloved nieces and nephews added as the family grew over the years.

He was a bright child who loved the natural world, spending hours outside studying insects (also inside, to the chagrin of his Mother and Father, hatching a whole colony of grasshoppers that took over every part of the house) and becoming a student ambassador at his school, teaching other students and sharing his passion about the things he discovered. Darrell had a gift for storytelling he believed he inherited from his Mother, rembering her bedtime stories fondly. He created his own alphabet in school, a secret code that he used into adulthood, and he loved to build and rebuild computers. His adult computer lab likely looked like the TV repair area he watched his father work in when he was young. He eventually added a Ham Radio license to his list of technical interests and accomplishments.

After High School, Darrell continued to stay close to friends he grew up with. He loved attending live concerts, (seeing Bruce Springsteen with friends was a favorite memory) and he took joy in discovering independent musical artists, staying tuned in to his favorite New Jersey radio station, WFMU, even after his move to California.

He moved to California in the mid 90's, inspired by love and a nature-filled spring trip that showcased green hills, wildflowers, and the majestic redwood tree groves he had only ever heard about, topped off with a perfect coastal drive along the Pacific Ocean. This is where he started his own family and became an always proud father to Jared in 2000.

Darrell joined Homeland Security as part of TSA at the Oakland Airport in 2003 with his most recent position being a supervisory one. He was a trusted collegue and friend to many over those years.

A memorial service will be held by his family on the East Coast on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM EST at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1123 Earle Place, Plainfield, New Jersey, 07062. A Zoom link is available upon request for those who wish to attend virtually.

Friends and family across the country had the privilege of spending different parts of Darrell's life with him. We welcome your stories and memories shared here and thank you for your kindness as we navigate this challenging time.
