Darrell was a responsible and friendly neighbor; we miss seeing him in the garden. He was a special friend to our cat Tony who came to clear out the chipmunks in Darrell's yard.

Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we are all experiencing with the passing of Darrell Whitaker. He may have been in title only to me as my uncle, but he was so much more. A man, a friend, a mentor, and a person who I looked up to in the highest regards possible. But this guest book is not about me, its about Darrell and his legacy and family that he left behind. A loving wife Barbara, 2 wonderful sons (Mark and Craig), many Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Colleagues. Everyone Darrell came in contact with felt a positive message and vibe from him. My mother was Barb's sister and my parents followed Barb and Darrell around the world in his adventures with the USAF. England, Germany, and across the ole' USA. I love hearing the stories and times they shared. I love seeing all the pictures and reliving the memories I was a part of.
I know we all wish he was still with us and no matter what, we cannot bring him back. However, that does not mean Darrell is gone. He is still in all of us. Every night, I walk over to where I have Darrel's and my fathers pictures side by side and tell them both I love them and say good night.
Col. Whitaker, I salute you for everything you accomplished in your life and everything you have taught myself and really what positive impact you have had on my son Mitchell. You are a true American Hero and we thank you for your service and sharing your wealth of knowledge with those who it mattered most to.
Rest In Peace Col Whitaker. Til we meet again.
Barb, Mark, Craig, Jordy, and the rest of the family please accept our condolences and deepest sympathies for the loss of this great man.
God Bless and God Speed.
Todd, Joey, Joan, Wendy, Mitchell, and Shelby Sturm.
