Daunice Winters Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2025.
Daunice Winters passed away peacefully on August 24th at the age of 69, after a brief but courageous battle with an aggressive form of kidney cancer.

Daunice was born in San Diego, California, the eldest child of Alice and Donald Darr. She grew up in Sacramento alongside her four siblings, grandparents, and extended family. She was an inquisitive child who loved to learn, and she was an avid reader from an early age.

She graduated from Cordova High School, and spent her early career working in electronics at McClellan Air Force Base. It was there that she met her future husband, Bob. They married in 1981 and had three children. In 1989 they moved their young family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and eventually settled in Black Forest.

Daunice was a fervent Christian who knew her ultimate salvation was assured through her relationship with Jesus Christ. She had a deep desire for others to know the Lord, and she spent the majority of her career working for faith-based organizations, including Focus on the Family and Reach Beyond. She sacrificed her own time and resources in order to put her children through Christian education, often leading prayer groups with Moms in Touch. She shared her faith with everyone she met, wishing for everyone to experience the fullness of life in Christ.

Daunice was warm, empathetic, and devoted to her friends and family. She was generous and she always had time for a long conversation. In her free time she enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, quilting, and reading. In her later years she delighted in spending time with her eight grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to play board games with them, or to support them as they participated in sports, dance recitals, and many other activities.

Daunice is survived by her daughter Kaitlyn, sons Ryan (Kristyn), and Erik; grandchildren, Brennan, Adrian, Olivia, Natalie, Andrew, Claire, Scarlett, and Bridget; her sisters Kathy (Tracy) and Lisa (Sean), brothers Donald (Noelle) and Darin (Jill), brother in law Doug (Judy); and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, and husband.

Funeral services will be held at Springs Lighthouse: 4777 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80918 on Sunday August 31st at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Daunice's memory to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org

The family extends their gratitude to all the friends and relatives who provided support to Daunice over the past several months as she navigated her initial diagnosis, treatment, and final days.
