David Aronson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2025.
Appleton - David H. Aronson age 82 years of Appleton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, August 4th. David was born August 1st, 1943, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of Harry & Mary Aronson. He grew up in Oconto where he grew to be quite the entrepreneur selling popcorn from his wagon in front of his parents clothing store (Aronsons Men & Boy's). David graduated from Ocoto High School in 1961 where he served as the class President both junior and senior year. After graduation David attended Lawrence University for one year before becoming a Badger at UW Madison where he earned his bachelor's degree in education and master's in history. His college days were spent enjoying his studies and his involvement in Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity where he held many positions of leadership. Immediately after graduation he worked assisting Wisconsin's first state Archivist, he was a whizz at social history. On a recent trip home from wintering in Florida, he enjoyed discussing with his nephew (Michale Mapes) the history backwards of each President of the United States, their wife's along with the Vice President, their wife's and a fun fact about each.

Dave married his best friend and love of his life, Nancy (Mapes) Aronson on July 11th, 1975. They spent 50 wonderful years together traveling, spending quality time with friends, their beloved dachshunds and owning many different bookstores in Appleton before retiring. David also spent 30 years on the board at Peabody Manor. Later years were spent together enjoying winters in St. Petersburg, FL where they made many lifelong friends and summers in Appleton wining on their screed porch.

David is survived and will be truly missed by his loving wife, Nancy Aronson; his nephew, Michael Mapes; wife Kari Mapes; son Carson Mapes; daughter Macy (Mapes) Guenterberg; his niece; Marybeth Jacobi; husband Tim Jacobi, son Alex and daughter Ashley; Sister-in-Law Gwen Stry, husband Terry Stry and daughter Sara, along with many friends.
