David Baskin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2015.
Funeral services for David Wayne Baskin will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Colonial Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Carter officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the funeral home.

David Wayne Baskin, age 48, passed away in his Whitehouse home on September 9, 2015. He was surrounded by loved ones and transitioned to his permanent home where he now has a perfected body and suffers no more from the ALS disease that he was diagnosed with in May, 2010.

David was born in Tyler on April 12, 1967 to the parents of Richard and Brenda Baskin. He spent his childhood years in Marshall where he began his passion for racing motocross. He moved to Tyler after completing high school and began competing. With his natural God given talents, he quickly became known in the motocross community as Super Dave and Diamond Dave and won many races.

David met the love of his life, Keri Johnson, while attending TJC and they were married, July 18, 1992. They had two beautiful children, Parker, October 25, 1996 and McKenzie, August 12, 1999. David was the most incredibly loving father that a wife could ever ask for. He was involved in every aspect of their lives, but most importantly was the knowledge and training that he provided them on how to live a purposeful, thriving life that he exemplified throughout his.

He took up golf in his young 20's and quickly became a scratch golfer and then used his talents as an assistant golf pro at Willowbrook Country Club. One of the highlights of his golfing career was the opportunity to play at Pebble Beach soon after his diagnosis.

After experimenting with a few jobs, David opened up his own security business in 1997. That company evolved into eventually Design Audio Video in which he was still conducting business until his very last day. David always had a brilliant, creative vision so it was no surprise that he was so successful in the corporate world. His fearless, warrior attitude inspired him to continue to persevere throughout the challenges of the disease so that he could be with his family and take care of them.

Later in life, he also began to ride mountain bikes and was known for riding in 80 mile races. He was always a fierce competitor. He saw his health as just another challenge for him and he was determined to not allow it to get in his way of leading a full life. He was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church. David leaves a legacy of HOPE, perseverance, but most importantly one of love.

David was preceded in death by his father, Richard Baskin and step-father, Fred Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Keri Baskin, son, Parker Baskin, daughter, McKenzie Baskin, mother, Brenda Johnson, of Marshall, sisters, Kim Henigan, of Marshall, Laurie Nutt, of Marshall, Freida Welch, of Hallsville and Renee Johnson, of Longview. He is also survived by aunt, Sue Mahaffey, of Katy; uncle, Don Burns, of Marshall and Mama Nellie Melone along with in-laws, Bob and Paula Johnson, of Tyler.

David, you were quite an inspiration. You never gave up on life even when faced with insurmountable odds. You were always there for your family and your friends and you showed incredible bravery and fortitude. You were also one of the kindest people I've ever had the privilege of knowing. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. It was a real honor knowing you over the last five years my friend. Somewhere in heaven, I know you're listening to beautiful music.

David and Keri I want to thank you for raising such wonderful young adults and allowing me to be a small part of their lives. There are no words that I can say at a time like this that measure up to the quality of a man like David. This is the thing I remember most he was a Godly man and loved his family like Christ loves us!

I would like to thank you David and Keri for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of both Parker and Makenzie's lives. You have been in my prayers every day for a very long time and I am thankful you are with Jesus and that hateful disease no longer torments you. I can't tell you enough how special your children are and how they have become wonderful young adults. God is good and His love shows through your love for your family.

They say you can tell a lot about someone by how they treat children. I think you can tell more by how they raise them. You and David raised two of the most wonderful children in McKenzie and Parker. Right now there is little comfort or solace, but I know as they get older and you are able to watch them be the amazing people they are, you will see David in them. His strength, his passion, his compassion, his determination will be reflected in them for you. God Bless and Hold you all in His Hands. The Wells Family
