I still think of David every year at Thanksgiving. He was my classmate in the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh and I still remember. Holding all of you in my prayers. Peace.

Last year I arrived at the University of Pittsburgh as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Africana Studies. During my time at Pitt I had the pleasure of meeting many great students, but D Berry was different, and special. I can remember coming to my office on many occasions and finding David sitting outside my door waiitng for me. We would discuss everything from history to hip-hop. He would bring me the new hip hop music and we would argue over what was hot and what was weak. David would also bring some of his own music by and allow me to critque it and offer him feedback. He would tell me stories of his MC battles and the hip hop scence in the "burgh". But most of all he would ask about what he could do to be a better student. When David applied to the School of Social I gladly wrote him a recommendation. Unfortunately, I had to leave the University of Pittsburgh and return to Louisiana. The first e-mail I received was from David, asking what happened and why I was no longer at Pitt. When I pulled up the Pitt News and learned of David's death I was in shock. David will truly be missed and I hope the family can find some peace during this trying time. With my deepest sympathy and prayers during your time of loss.

I'm so sorry to hear of David's (DJ's) passing. He was a student of mine at UPitt. I hope that the Berry family can find comfort in such a difficult time.

Lori, Lisa and family,
It's been a long long time, I am very saddened that this is the time and way I am making contact with you all. My thoughts are of you all at this time of deep sadness. Wrap yourselves in those warm, fun loving memories of DJ and lean on one another to get through.
I remember the little boy that used to follow Lisa around and want to be outside with us in the summer time in Penn Hills.

DJ,
Thank you for coming into my life. I figured that one day God would want you for an angel, but I guess I never would have imagined so soon. I feel honored to know you. I send my love and compassion to you and your family, just as you gave your heart to everyone you met.

DJ,
you were a friend to me and we had some laughs. When I walk across that stage at graduation, you will walk with me. You will always be in my thoughts and dreams, and yours will become mine. You know what I mean...
Mr and Mrs. Berry, your son was a beacon of light in my life when none existed in mine. He made me think, laugh, and taught me what it meant to be sincere. May G-D bless you and your son. He was a hero to many and a friend to even more. G-D bless him... You and yours are in my prayers... I am so sorry.

I am an Instructor/Ph.D student in the School of Social Work. I did not directly know David, but some of my students told me about him. He was a student who was helpful to the other students in the Junior class, and was a really nice guy. My students are saddened by the loss of David in the Social Work program. As a mother of a son I am deeply saddened, also, by your loss and my prayers are with you. Professor Momper

Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there, I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autum's rain.
When you waken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flght.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
From Terra's family with deepest condolences. The Crosby Family.
