David Bruner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 10 to Feb. 12, 2023.
David Alan Bruner passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas on January 17, 2023 after a 10-year battle with cancer.

David was born on December 2, 1946 in Rogersville, Tennessee, to Francis and Bureeda Bruner. As a young man, he enjoyed the outdoors and camping, exploring the woods, mountains, and lakes of his native Tennessee as well as the nature of his new home when the family moved to Dallas, Texas. He had an enduring passion for classic cars from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, and owned one of the first Mazda Miatas manufactured. He had a long career in the produce business, both retail and wholesale. In 2012 he retired from Crossmark, Inc.

David's son, David Jr., from his marriage (1974 - 1987) to Lisa Hensley, and his granddaughter Addy (Adelyn), brought him tremendous joy. Along with spending time with his family, he found great pleasure as a Christian in studying the Bible with Bible scholars and becoming certified in Biblical studies at Christian universities. He also enjoyed traveling and treasured his memories of trips to Mount Rushmore and elsewhere throughout Texas and the United States.

David is survived by his son, David Bruner Jr., his granddaughter, Addy, and his daughter, Christine Walker Burkard.

He is also survived by siblings Juanita Lanier, Patricia (Patty) Harman, Bureeda Bruner, Jacob Van Der Kroon, Mary Van Der Kroon, and Albert Van Der Kroon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Bruner and Bureeda Bruner, and by his brother, Eddie Bruner.
