David Brunkhorst Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2023.
David Michael Brunkhorst, 71, of Mount Pleasant, SC (formerly of Plymouth, MA), passed away on May 27th, 2023 after a very sudden, but courageous battle with cancer. Dave was born on September 30th, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Earl and Bonnie Brunkhorst. He was a union carpenter with Local 624 out of Brockton, MA and contractor at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, MA.

Dave was loved by all who knew him. He was a man of few words, but always found a way to make people laugh with his quick quips and friendly smile. Above all else he adored his wife of 50 years, his "Nance", who were inseparable since childhood and forever soul mates. A true romantic, he never missed an opportunity to pick wildflowers for her. After growing up with all boys he never seemed to mind being surrounded by daughters (his "dolls"). Dave loved his extended family, many pets and special friends over the years. He cherished time outdoors, especially kayaking, 4-wheeling and blueberry picking trips. Dave was a hard worker who was masterful in his woodwork, always willing to help family and friends out with various projects and enjoyed relaxing with a beer at the end of the day. He delighted in any opportunity to light fireworks and bask in the show.

Dave is survived by his wife, Nancy Brunkhorst; children, Sonja Brunkhorst, Emily Peterson (Jeff) and Kimberly Hatten (Michael); grandchildren, Andrew Peterson, Olivia Peterson, Everly Hatten and Noelle Hatten; siblings, Bob Brunkhorst (Elaine) and Will Brunkhorst (Teddy); wife's siblings, Judi Hudson (Jon), Dana Hanson, Lyssa Morin (Jim), Karen Hanson and Kurt Hanson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Earl Brunkhorst, and mother, Bonnie Brunkhorst.

Dave attended Winchester High School in Winchester, MA, and later went on to graduate from Northland College in Ashland, WI with a degree in chemistry.

In his free time, Dave enjoyed watching the Red Sox, spending time at his house in Maine, vacationing in Aruba and taking on home improvement projects. He loved listening to sports radio and classic rock and watching Clint Eastwood westerns. He was also a history buff who enjoyed a good true crime story. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

So sorry to find out that David passed away. Dave and i met when we were young kid living in the Winchester Estates. We stayed close all through school. We had´nt seen much of each other since HS, but did enjoy catching up at some of our HS reunions. He was a great guy and will be missed. Nancy, you are in my thoughts!

So sorry to hear this, Nancy and family! John remembers many drives into work with him and the laughs they shared! I remember riding in the convertible with both of you to a union cookout. Please know John just heard about Dave´s passing through another union member. May all the memories help you and the girls get through these days!

Nancy and Family: Dana and I was sadden to hear the news about Dave. We always enjoyed our visit while you were in Maine. We know what 50 years of together means. Over the years we have enjoyed your kindness, watched your togetherness, and marveled at your strong family support. We can't imagine what you have loss, but our hearts go out to each of you. We are so sorry for your loss. Dave and Nancy seem most happy when Family and extended family was around.

That´s Dave true and true. He was happiest when family was around. Dave built multiple houses from the ground up and each one was beautiful. He truly was a fantastic carpenter. He will be dearly missed by so many. Our love and sincere sympathy to all of you.

Love, Peter and Rosemary
