David Allen Burgess
September 16, 1956 - November 9, 2022
Fort Worth, Texas - David Allen Burgess, 66, passed away unexpectedly in his home Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
Celebration of Life: 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15 at The Fort Worth Club.
David was born in Gainesville, Texas on September 16, 1956, to Wayman (Sam) and Peggy Burgess. He was preceded in death by his father.
David spent his youth overseas from the age of seven, living in Libya, Singapore, and attending high school in Australia. Though he left the states, he didn't leave behind America's pastime, baseball. At thirteen, he pitched for the Australian Little League World Series against Japan. Acting as a coach later in life fulfilled his passion for sports with his children.
David attended Texas Christian University, making lifelong friends in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, David went on to work for Southeastern Drilling Company, commuting to and from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He began his career in the investment brokerage industry in 1984 working for several major Wall Street firms before becoming an independent registered investment representative at Burgess Financial with Rhodes Securities.
David met the love of his life, Shannon Brown, and they married in 1985. They welcomed three wonderful children, Sydney, Bailey and Matthew. Nothing meant more to David than time with his family whether it was traveling, at the family farm, cheering on the Frogs together, or loving on his three beautiful grand babies. A kind and caring father and loving husband, David was beyond proud of his family.
David never met a stranger and always saw the best in people. Everyone who met David was an instant friend because he made you feel special.
Throughout his life he had many interests including motorcycles, walking on the Trinity with his dogs, activities at the Fort Worth Club, biking with his wife, and traveling around the world with friends and family.
He will be deeply missed and forever in our memories.
David is survived by his wife, Shannon; daughters, Sydney (Sam) Patterson and Bailey (Matthew) Troutt; son, Matthew Burgess; grandchildren, Jackson and Lily Troutt, Porter Patterson; mother, Peggy Burgess; sisters, Debra (Mike) Blackburn and Vicki (Chris) Stellar; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.

Very sorry to hear of David's passing. We were good mates through his time at Sale High and he was well regarded by his peers. Although I had not had any contact with him since he left Sale, it was interesting to note that we both went into the investment industry. My condolences to the Burgess family in this difficult time.

To the Burgess family-
David (or BF as we liked to refer to each other) and were fraternity brothers at TCU. While we had not seen each other for years, David regularly sent me his newsletter and we would keep in touch through that, exchanging emails to stay up to date. I just had that email exchange last Monday as we talked about Frog football and how much fun it was to get behind a winning program. I am stunned at your loss and words don't reflect how shocked I am. BF was truly one of the good guys who everyone liked and he will be missed. Phi Alpha brother.
