David Button Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 5, 2017.
David Joseph Button, age 63, passed away peacefully at his home in Lufkin, surrounded by family, on Saturday, December 4, 2017. He was born on January 6, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri to Joseph and Norma Button. David attended grade school in Independence and graduated high school in St. Louis. He went on to enlist in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Kiska. After his service in the Navy, he met his wife, Dianna, in 1976. David later earned his Bachelors degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri in St. Louis and then moved to Houston where his daughter, Sara, was born. His job transferred to Iron Mountain, Michigan, where both of his sons, Zach and Jesse, were born. David worked for Champion as an accountant while attending Lake Superior University where he earned his Master's degree. In 1992, he moved his family to East Texas where his job relocated. He worked for the same company for 35 years, from Champion to it's International Paper buy out, to the now Georgia Pacific company where he worked as a Controller until September 2017. David enjoyed baseball (especially his St. Louis Cardinals), spending afternoons with his family at the lake on their boat, and riding his motorcycle whenever he could. David is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dianna; his daughter, Sara; his sons Zach (and his wife Emily), and Jesse; his four grandchildren: Kenai, Koda, Timothy, and Kurtis. There will be no funeral or wake services. David's remains will reside at the Rose Hill Cemetary in a mausoleum in Tyler, Texas. The family welcomes friends and loved ones of David to come celebrate his life at their home on Friday, December 8, from 4 PM - 7 PM.

Mrs. Button and Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of Dave. I met Dave at Southwest High School and we shared morning advisory together for all four years. I was so happy to reconnect with Dave through Classmates and Facebook pending our 45th HS reunion and have the opportunity to share some memories. Likewise, I was so very sorry to learn of his illness. I'll always remember Dave and his fun loving antics fondly, it seems just like yesterday. I know he was a great husband, dad and granddad. Again, my sympathies to you and your entire family.

Dianna and Family,

We are saddened to hear of the loss of Dave. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to all of you.

Be proud of the life he lived. Dave was a terrific friend and confidante. He and I graduated from Southwest H.S. together. We shared a LOT of great times (cruizing, racquetball, float trip [there's an amazing story behind THAT one...], correspondence while he was in the Navy, and just generally being 20-something and bullet-proof).

He was always a positive, up-beat, stand-up guy. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him for a very, very long time.

Sorrowfully, Mike and Leslie Pruett

Dianna and Family,
We are sorry to hear about Dave's passing. Trying to take away a positive thought during these times can be difficult, but I thank God for the opportunity for our families to have crossed. Your time in Iron Mountain may have been brief but everyone you encountered here remember Dave and the family. I am also thank God for Dave being Dave all they way thru his illness. His positive outlook and sense of humor in a situation that he had no control over has been an inspiration. God Bless you and the family

Dianna, not sure you will recognize the name but I wanted to pass on my condolences to Dave's passing. I know he has been fighting the good fight for some time. Very sad to hear of your loss. Dave was a fun guy that I am happy I got to know. We had some good times both working and playing back in his Quinnesec days. I wish you and your family the best going forward. Sincerely, Bill Schilz
