David Carlisle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2023.
David Charles Carlisle, II, born March 22, 1951, to the late David Carlisle and Doris Sights, died at 72 years old. He passed on August 5th in New Palestine, IN, surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him.

Born in West Palm Beach, FL, before moving to California, David was a graduate of Fountain Valley High School and both California State Universities: Dominguez Hills (BA) and Long Beach (MPA). He spent the first half of his life in Southern California. With his ex-wife, he had two daughters, Laine (partner Lawton Link, partner's son Kooper Link) and Erin Carlisle Rosa (husband Elvis Vilasboas Rosa), before moving to Indiana and having son, Phillip. David spent the remaining thirty-four years of his life in and around Indianapolis.

David was known for his sense of humor and care for others. He had an uncanny ability to make any stranger a friend, and would often go the extra mile to make someone smile, much to the embarrassment of his children who loved him dearly. He eagerly embraced watching TV shows and movies-specifically, he loved talking about them-and would escape into the stories they told. A devout Christian and active in his church, he cared deeply for God. He loved to bake desserts for others and, thankfully, he was very good at it.

Given the chance, David would spend his days asking probing questions about every detail of his children's lives. He wanted nothing more than to know others fully so that he could offer them his unflinching love. Against all odds, David fought his cancer diagnoses for two and a half years-never letting cancer beat him or best him, even until the end. He was strong, and inspiring, and sharp up through his final days. He was loved so very much.

Within his immediate family, he is survived by his elder sister Vicki Geisler (husband Ron Geisler), his younger twin sister Kathy, his younger brother Bruce (wife Judy), and his delightful children, who wrote this.

A service will be held at Gray Road Baptist Church on Thursday, August 10th, at 6:00 p.m. Celebrants may arrive beginning at 5:30 p.m. As David was an adamant supporter of cremation, there will be no viewing. Donations may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.

David was a great guy, very funny and kind. When my family and I moved here from New York City (2003), a sweet young boy named Phillip welcome us to the neighborhood and introduced us to the rest of the family. We all became good friends. We could always counted on David to look out for our girls. If they needed something he volunteered to help. Especially when we needed a driver since I didn't drive at the time..
Even though it been a long time since we last saw him, we will always remember his great sense of humor, quick wit and generous spirit.
It's with great sadness that we say goodbye.

This is said far too often, but David was truly one of the kindest people I have ever met! David and I worked together for 6 years in Indianapolis. He was the first of my coworkers to befriend me and offer his support. He was so generous with his time, and very devoted to his family. He was also quite the baker! David would make special treats for us almost every week and on birthdays! His kindness was infectious and his zeal for life was contagious. If David even sensed something off in your day, he was always there to offer kind words of encouragement. I will remember his smile, his laughter, and the many corny dad jokes! I am lucky to have gotten to know David and I wish my best to his family in their time of remembrance!

Most often I think of David smiling and offering good handshakes and warm words of encouragement.
He was in my new members class and his contribution was the same, good conversation and a smile for each of the others in our class.
He is going to be missed:

To the Carlisle Family,
We first met Dave back in college in 1973. We played baseball together. He quickly became a good friend and was considered family immediately. He was in our wedding in 1974. Dave lit up the room with his quick wit and great sense of humor. We were so glad that he came to visit us earlier this year. And we feel blessed that we were able to visit with him via FaceTime. He will be forever in our hearts. Thank you Laine for keeping in touch with us. We truly appreciate it.

Where to begin with Uncle David? He was a shining light in the Blakley family. He could cut through all the seriousness with a perfectly-timed joke. He certainly had his faults--he would be the first to tell you that--but his love for family couldn't be denied.

Even though the years and life left me out of contact for so long, I had the pleasure of messaging a bit with him in recent months as he neared hospice care. He was at peace with God, and his faith in Christ was so evident. It was encouraging for me to see his steadfastness to the end. My prayer is that his love for the Lord will have ripple effects even after his passing.

With love to the Carlisle family.

I met Dave when we both worked at Federal Express Trade Networks. I always referred to him as "Dave the Baker" because he would bring in home-made treats to share with everyone on our team. He was always a delightful, cheerful man, and I'm sure everyone who knew him will miss him.

David was such a joy and light in an often dark world. He will be so missed. He was so proud of all of his children. I am lifting you up in love and light and hoping happy memories help to ease the pain of his passing.

David became a dear friend when he and his family came alongside Angie and I to start Indianapolis International Baptist Church. Everything said in his obituary regarding David was seen, experienced, and enjoyed by us and those with whom he came in contact at IIBC. God used his gift of serving among the international community on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

To the Carlisle family I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers on behalf of the Graves family. We know how hard it is to lose a dad. Life is not the same when a beloved parent dies, but we can be thankful he is out of pain and has been upgraded to a perfect heavenly body! Praise God! My prayers are with you each.
