To all of the Contreras Family:

I was very shocked to hear of David's death. Daren called to let me know. I will always remember the old neighborhood. David was such a gifted athlete. And from reading the other messages a good father, husband and son. My prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

In these days since David's death, we are learning so much about the Dave we hardly knew. We saw him just two or three times a year, at Ericksen family gatherings; there, he had maybe two or three words to share. He always smiled, and sat back to take in the mayhem. We could see he was a doting husband, an adoring father. Now, with his passing, we learn he was also a baseball star and a football hero, an expert baker, a dedicated worker, an enthusiastic coach, clearly a caring friend to all he met.

We are thinking of David-- and praying for Beth and your whole family-- this Easter weekend. We mourn with you at this devastating loss on Earth, as we rejoice with our Father at His tremendous gain in Heaven.

Cousins in Christ,

To Beth and kids, Al, Karen, and Tim: It is with great shock and sadness to hear of your loss. Dave and I had great times together in the old neighborhood. Playing baseball in the street, using trees as foul lines, and just plain goofing around. Growing up where we did was so much fun. When ever I would see Dave we always talked about things we did in the "old neighborhood" and the good times we had there. I am sorry I will not be able to be with you during this time. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

Beth, Tim, and the rest of Dave's family,

Not only did I know David from playing football in high school, I also had the pleasure of working with him for 2 years at North High School. We shared a lot of great laughs, good talks, and he always checked to make sure I was taken care of, even though it was not always his job. He was also extremely kind to my wife and daughter when they visited. I will miss him a lot, as will many others around the school. There is nothing I can say to make it easier, but our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless,

Lynne Crockett

March 21, 2005

My deepest sympathy goes out to your family. I worked with Dave at North High. When I started here last year, he was one of the first people to smile and be helpful. Dave was a good friend of mine during gradeschool at St. Bridgets. We played on the same Cub football team. He was one of the best players on the team and I was one of the smallest. I still remember in the one on one tackling drills where I ended up going against Dave. I had the ball and he had to tackle me. I thought I was going to get smeared. The whistle blew and instead of him pulverizing me he tried to get cutesy (trying to go easy on me I'm sure) and he put his shoulder on the ground trying to take my legs out. I jumped over him and made it past. He was a good friend.
