David Cooper Obituary

David Grant Porter Cooper, 17, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007. He was a sophomore at The McCallie School.
David was a kind and thoughtful young man whose gentle spirit touched all who knew him. A gifted artist, he aspired to one day become an architect. He was also a focused competitor who participated on the McCallie crew and wrestling teams. He was an Eagle Scout and a national finalist in Destination ImagiNation, an international problem-solving competition.
Prior to enrolling in McCallie in 2005, David attended the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX, and primary schools in Orcas, WA, and Orinda, CA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Edward Porter. Survivors include his parents, Diane Odom Cooper and Michael Edward Cooper; his twin brother, Reid; older brother, Chase; younger sister, Brett; and beloved dog, Daisy. He is also survived by his grandparents, Bonnie and Lenox Cooper of Wilmington, NC, and Bobbie and Farrell Odom of Rio Verde, AZ. Other surviving relatives include Suzanne McKee and her children Katie, Hannah and Sarah Lenox McKee of Winston-Salem, NC; Laurel FitzPatrick Odom and Stephen Odom and their children, Elizabeth, Katherine and William Odom of New York, NY; Gretchen and Roger Porter and their children Heather and Jennifer Porter of Newport Beach, CA; and Karen and Roy Spezia of Austin, TX.
A service celebrating David's life will be held at The McCallie School Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, with Rev. Dr. Jerry Ferrari officiating. Immediately following the service, friends of David and his family are invited to a reception at the school.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in memory of David Cooper to The McCallie School, 500 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404.
A private burial will take place on a later date.
