Will miss you David. Even though we haven't really seen each other from when me, you, your brother Mike and Jason, use to hang out in the woods as kids back in Ohio. I was so happy for you that you were able to do what you loved. Youre entire family treated all of us so greatly. You will be missed by so many. We had finally talked a few months before your passing and it was a total shock. See you one day my friend. Until then keep everyone laughing with your humor and your incredible artwork up in heaven.

I was a complete internet stranger, but he always replied to my emails and constantly gave me a ton of great graphic design advice. His Emptyflower site was the biggest inspiration I had when I was starting out in design. I was in love with his projects. I will seriously miss him.

I only knew him through the internet cause I did taijiquan and he did xing yi. It has been years since then. And now I was wandering if he still did the arts. Rest in peace, David.

It's been a long time, but David talked about having been introduced to the Chinese internal martial arts by his friend David Meikle around 1998, when he was living in Arizona and David Meikle had come down to Phoenix (from Vancouver, B.C.)to visit family. David trained in Chen style taijiquan at a school in the Phoenix area. Around 1999 David moved to LA and soon after began training xingyiquan with Gong Zhong Xiang,a well-known Chinese teacher. David was taught at least partly in exchange for designing Gong's website, which featured the same inimitable creative work that David was bringing to the xingyiquan database at his own emptyflower.com website. In 2001 DDV took up Brazilian jiu-jitsu under the renowned John Machado.
Eventually David left the martial arts but maintained the emptyflower online discussion forum because he enjoyed the community and camaraderie. The emptyflower forum eventually developed into the Rumsoakedfist forum which has inspired learning, laughter and training get-togethers for thousands of martial artists over the years. David's kindness, generosity, humor and artistic inspiration will live on at RSF.
Godspeed, Sailor.

Although the years had past us by, our thoughts are now all about the fun days when we were altogether. I will never make baked beans again without thinking of you and how much you loved them. Rest in peace Dave.

My heart goes out to David's family and friends. It's never easy to say good-bye, but try to take some comfort in knowing that you will see him again. Love and peace to you all.

I lost my big brother and I am heart broken. I always looked up to you since we were little tikes playing around in the woods back in Ohio. You were a very talented artist and musician, and touched MANY peoples lives. I love you David.

Will always remember the fun times when Dave was just a kid growing up in Parma. Ohio. Those were (mostly) the "good old days" for us all. May we always remember the best of times and that Dave was a part of it.
