David Faessel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2025.
David Joseph Faessel (Neighbor Dave), age 78, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025. Born on February 28, 1947, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Regis and Alice (Richey) Faessel.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, David served his country with honor from 1964 to 1967. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal-testaments to his dedication and courage during a pivotal time in American history.

Following his military service, David embarked on a long and fulfilling career with the Beaver County Times where he received awards for his work in picture colorization. His work there left a lasting impact on both colleagues and readers alike. Beyond journalism, he played a key role in establishing amateur hockey in Beaver County, Pennsylvania-a contribution that enriched the local community and fostered a love for the sport among generations of young athletes.

David's passions extended far beyond his professional life. A devoted fan of Pittsburgh sports teams, he followed the Pittsburgh Penguins with particular enthusiasm. Whether it was hockey season or football Sundays with the Steelers or summer afternoons cheering on the Pirates, David's loyalty to his hometown teams never wavered. David's other activities included playing hockey in his younger days and later on his interests involved billiards where he competed in Las Vegas for a National Tournament, listening to music, musical theater and reading.

He also found joy in quiet moments- during retirement, David moved to Mesa, Arizona where he fell in love with the view of Superstition Mountain which brought him peace and reflection. A lover of history and an admirer of dogs, David appreciated both stories of the past and the companionship of loyal four-legged friends.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Faessel; his son, Shawn Faessel and wife Valerie Faessel; his daughter, Katrina Faessel; and his cherished grandchildren, Aria Langley, Corey Faessel, Brianna Faessel; and great grandchild Rayne Faessel. He was preceded in death by his sister Joan Kessler; brothers Donald Faessel and William Fischer.

David's legacy lives on through those who knew him-as a veteran, a sports enthusiast, and most importantly as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Sorry for your loss. Worked with Dave for 19 years. Lot of good times and fond memories during that tenure. Also saw him outside of work. We had a lot of mutual friends. He will be sorely missed. Vern's...... Some of you may recognize that lol May God be with you and yours. Be safe. Again sorry for your loss. Time is coming soon when we all be reunited when Christ returns to bring His kingdom to this earth. A time of healing, peace, and joy. God be with you all. Sending love and prayers.
