David Fischer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 20 to Jun. 29, 2023.
In Loving Memory of

Dave Fischer

Dave Fischer was born on May 16th, 1951 in Springfield, Missouri. Throughout his life, Dave resided in various places; with Bellaire, Michigan being his home in his final years.

Throughout his life, Dave built a career as a farmer until moving to Brighton where he began working at the Kensington Metro Parks where he ultimately retired.

Known for his humble nature, he possessed a remarkable talent for woodwork and maintaining cars and machinery. There wasn't a project Dave couldn't handle. Whether it was completely renovating a house built in 1905, making a picture frame from birdseye maple or roofing a barn, he was always patient and persistent. He was a skilled carpenter, mechanic, engineer and forester. With a wonderful sense of humor, he was clever and full of knowledge gained through his travels and life experiences. He didn't often give unsolicited feedback, but if someone asked for his advice, he told it like it was.

A fisherman, dart player, lover of music, and drinker of Strohs, Dave found joy in the simple pleasures of life; often surrounded by his dear friends and family, whose company he treasured dearly. People were always drawn to Dave's wisdom and calm demeanor.

Above all, his love for his wife, Melissa, was unwavering throughout nearly 50 years of marriage. From kayaking to gardening and everything in between, the home they cultivated in Bellaire provided the happiest years of their lives.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends and for his overall love for life. Even in his time of illness, he carried himself with dignity, strength, composure and simplicity. Though his presence will be missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

His memory lives on through his wife Melissa, his two sons Aaron and Nathan, his two daughters Niki and Wendy, his three grandchildren Frazier, Max, and Alice and his remaining siblings Judy, Connie, and Tom.

So sad. My cousin, Dave and I were born a year apart. Spent plenty of time on the farm with Dave when we were kids. Great guy.

Thinking of Dave brings back memories of a simple life. Good times on the Cohen Farm from the little trailer in a hay field to the "big house" that was like a palace! We shared raising animals, harvesting/shipping hay, cutting firewood and trying to believe "Mountain Man" really did have a mouse living in his hair! We both will miss you but the memories will keep you in our hearts forever.

David called me his sister and I, Jayne called him my brother. I have know David since I was a little girl. He was both my brother Greg and my brother Eric´s best friend. Eric and him played music together for years. My family calls him part of our childhood legacy.
My husband Clare and I have also stayed friends as couples with David and Melissa for all these years. All the times we have been with them has always been amazing. We always seemed to learn a lot from each other. I have heard my husband many times saying, well Dave Fischer said... and I can´t forget to add many hours Clare and David spent downing Strohs together grateful it wasn´t popular leaving more for them!!
He was a kind, patient soul. I think the family did a wonderful job summing up his attributes.
We will always have a warm place in our heart for all the great times we shared together. They are truly our extended family.
I have no doubt David would simply sum up his life as "What a ride"
A life well lived. We will truly miss this guy. Hugs and prayers to Melissa and her family.

Dave was a voice of reason - whether discussing politics or how to fertilize tomatoes. He was a true friend- ready to chop wood, fix a plumbing problem, or drink a beer with you. He taught my family about tractors, Joe Bonamassa, and Alaska. He will always be loved and cherished by the Linharts. We love you Dave, and our hearts go out to the Fischer family.

Dave was truly one of a kind and authentic. I always enjoyed conversations with him, he was wise, spoke the truth and meant what he said. He made a difference while he was here and will be eternally remembered.

The first time I met David, I was greeted with more than a simple smile and a handshake. I was immediately smitten with that of an old soul and a hug that resembled family. I wish I had known him better, but I´m proud to have know him at all.

I didn't know Dave well and only for a few years. But the part of Dave that I did know was that of an honest, quiet, humble, and kind man. I'm not often saddened by life's events, but I'm sad for losing this special human being. He leaves an admirable legacy.
