David Flaig Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 18 to May 19, 2011.
FLAIG, David "Dave" Timothy Leonard August 23, 1968 - May 13, 2011 Dave Flaig, beloved father, husband and son, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 13, 2011 as the result of a vehicle accident on his way home from work. He was forty-two years old. Born in Medicine Hat and raised in Calgary, Dave's greatest love was his family. He met his sweetheart Angie as teenagers at Crescent Heights High School and they were married on July 13, 1991, surrounded by a loving group of their family and close friends. Dave and Angie became parents to their first son Mitchell on November 19, 1997, and their second son Cory on November 15, 2007. Dave absolutely loved children and when his sons were born, he was so absorbed in being with them that it was difficult to get his attention for anything other than his boys. A gentle and genuine person, Dave was without malice for anyone or anything. He was a loyal and forgiving man, and had a traditional sense of chivalry when he thought that someone was being treated unfairly. He was happiest in the outdoors; camping, quadding, fishing and having a Budweiser by the campfire. In the months before his passing, Dave and his family took a trip to Florida to visit Disney World and also went to Turks and Caicos, where Dave caught a four-foot Barracuda. His family feels blessed that his last months were joyful and full of experiences and people he loved. Dave is survived by his wife Angela and their sons, Mitchell and Cory; his parents Leonard and Verna; sister Fern Short (Will) and their children, Jonathan, Joshua, Ethan and Emily-Joy; brother Darcy and his children, Kaitee, Brett and Karly; his mother-in-law Donna Kannelin who loved Dave as her own son; sister-in-law Bonnie Mills (Mark) and their children, Michelle and Stephanie; and many good friends and colleagues, particularly at Terra Nova Steel & Iron, where Dave was the Sales Manager for Western Canada. He was predeceased by his grandparents Lena and Dan Leischner, and his father-in-law Arthur Kannelin. Funeral Services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church (1432 - 19 Street N.E.) on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Dave's family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . In living memory of Dave Flaig, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Angie, Mitchell and Cory (and your extended Families)

We are shocked and in disbelief of your tragic loss. Dave was such a Great Man, a Great Father and a Wonderful friend to all of my kids, but especially to Sean. I am sure that Sean will never forget Dave’s kindness and full heart and everything that you and your Family have done for him. I also know that Nicolle & Trent and Steven & Sheena have great camping memories as well. Please know that we are thinking of you all at this most difficult time and hope that you will always remember that mourning the passing of a loved one is hard, but you’ll always have your memories. Take care of yourselves.
