David Harrison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2025.
David Melvin Harrison passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, into God's loving arms. He was born August 21, 1944, in Van Nuys, California, and grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

David was the youngest child of Edgar J. and Hazel Juanita (Gillespie) Harrison with two brothers (Eddie and Dale) and a sister (Janet). After graduating from Las Cruces High School in 1956 he briefly served in the U.S. Navy in California.

David met the love of his life, Debbie Ashworth, while she was attending college in Las Cruces, New Mexico. They were married in Las Cruces in 1970. They moved to Dallas, Texas; Albuquerque, NM; and finally, to Farmington, NM. During this time, they raised two beautiful daughters: Holly and Heather. David attended the Dale Carnegie School of Business, then worked in Dallas, Texas at Electronic Data Systems under Ross Perot. David also worked at the White Sands Missile Range in Alamogordo, NM. Once in Farmington, David worked at Construction Supply Hardware in the 80's and 90's as a lumber salesman and paint specialist.

David enjoyed watching Sunday football games and was a die-hard fan of the Las Vegas Raiders. He loved bowling and spent many years on bowling leagues, accumulating numerous bowling trophies. One of David's favorite things was to grill out hamburgers (no matter the weather or the season). David enjoyed reading history books (Rudolfo Anaya and Jimmy Santiago were among his favorites), doing puzzles, collecting coins and clocks, and classic cars. David loved animals, especially cats, birds, and frogs. David and Debbie were adventurous travelers, visiting California, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Kentucky, and Mexico numerous times. In his retirement David was a member of the Farmington Civitan's Club, the ARC, Kiwanis Club, Frontline Ministry, Jail Ministry, and was a volunteer at the Echo Food bank.

David is survived by his children: daughter Holly Kerkes (Kelly), daughter Heather Harrison, brother Eddie Harrison, granddaughters Hannah Kerkes, Fionna Kerkes, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Debbie, his brother Dale, and his sister Janet.

David will be remembered for his generosity, hard work ethic, unwavering compassion, and boundless love in his life as a Christian.

A celebration of life service will be held on August 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 211 W. 20th St., Farmington, NM 87401.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice are appreciated.

My Uncle Dave was loyal, hardworking, kind, and a sweetheart who loved the Lord. I see his heart of service to others in his daughters!

First I just want to send my condolences to the Harrison family.
I was very lucky to be able to spend some quality time with this wonderful family per my relationship with Dave and Debbie's daughter Heather.
I was welcomed into their circle and am so glad I was able to enjoy many meals and some "adventures" with this wonderful family.
Dave grilled the BEST hot dogs when I went to visit them at their beautiful home.
I am sure Debbie is glad to have her wonderful husband "home" with her again.
You've definitely earned your place for sure in your new heavenly home.
Rest in peace Dave!
