I was shocked to hear about Dave. It was a pleasure to hand over my job to him in Ulsan, Korea. Best wishes to his family and friends.

I worked with Dave at Footprints. So young, yet mature, skilled, wise. So shocking, untimely, thought provoking. I will think of Dave more often now, in a new light. Maybe I'll meet him somewhere else again... At least I hope so. My condolences to Erin, the family, and Bruno.

I knew Dave only through my daughter Caroline Sturk's friendship with his brother Andrew. They were avid participants in their high school outdoor club, sharing hiking experiences that shaped their young adult characters and lives. I was impressed with Dave's adventurous spirit and followed news of his progress on the Appalachian Trail with great interest. He crammed a lot of living into his all too few years. My heart goes out to his wife, parents and brother but I hope they take some comfort in knowing that he made a powerful, positive impression on many people, including those who never had a chance to meet him in person.

I knew Dave from his early days in Ulsan - the activities and adventures he pioneered are the landmark memories of my time there: the scooter rallies, the frisbee on the banks of the Taewha, and the breathtaking photos. This world is a bleaker place without him, but it is richer for the time he spent here. My thoughts are with all those who loved him.
