Dr.Hawkins was a travel agents dream client. He always had a travel experience to share with me that was full of colourful dialogue and always made the best of any mishaps along the way. He was a lovely gentleman. Mrs.Felix, please accept my most sincere condolences.

Sadly I heard of David's passing today. I met David while he was Dean at MUN when I was recruited as Dept. Head in O/G. I've never encountered a more fair and supportive Dean. Although we have since followed different paths, I always enjoyed our chance encounters and to this day I continue to use his witty quotes.
My deepest condolences to family and love ones.

Dr Hawkins will be so missed. After our many years at Cheo rheumatology clinic I will miss his stories, his dining and travel adventures but mostly what he taught me was that life was meant to be lived and he lived it to the fullest. It is with deep sadness that I say goodbye to a true gentle man. Annette and family I share your grief and send along my deepest condolences.

Dear Annette and family:
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of my friend and mentor, David. I was extremely saddened when I heard the news of his illness. I can only say that all my memories of David are filled with joy, happiness, laughter and gratitude. It was David who was kind enough to steer me in the direction of dermatology. I remember one afternoon we sat in his office and he called every program director from Halifax to Vancouver securing me a spot at his alma mater McGill. I am forever grateful for his kindness, consideration and mentoring. Beverly and I fondly remember our visit to the ranch during our trips home. We were also honoured to have David come by and cook at our flat in Montreal. I am sure David will be remembered for many things including the very significant contribution he made to the advancement of medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador during his time as a physician , Chair of Medicine and as the Dean of Medicine. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family as you celebrate the life of this great Newfoundlander and Labradorian.

As a former Executive Secretary and fellow Maritimer to Dr. Hawkins at AFMC I will truly miss him, he was a joy to work for. Also to you Annette, thank you for inviting Tom & I into your home at Mont Tremblay. He was certainly one of a kind for sure.

Thank-you, David! You were a delight to work with, and I treasure your contributions, wisdom, and your ability to turn a clever phrase. You will be missed.

My son was in the care of Dr. Hawkins at CHEO when he was first diagnosed with SJIA. Dr. Hawkins went above his requirements showing patients he cared and taking his time to explain by answering questions. My family is truly grateful to have met such a great man. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
