My condolences to the family, by all accounts David was a very interesting person, unfortunately I only knew him by reputation and I hope he has found peace now that he has journeyed on.
To his mother I give my respects, to see a child pass before their time is no easy task.
I truly wish I had a chance to know him, i am told we would have gotten on famously!, in the words of my generation I am truly bummed out!!! This is a reminder to me as a new father to not take the time we are given for granted, to be kinder to friends and family and take time to enjoy everyday, nothing is set in stone and nothing is guaranteed.
I never knew my birth father and I lay no blame, but my son will know my smile, I'm told my father had the same smile.
David Hewston you will be missed, by many generations.

I remember David from his Flora Street days -- a free spirit but also very concerned for the happiness of the other tenants in that shared house. I'm so sorry that he is gone so soon.

Sad to hear the world lost a good guy.
I met David on Westmount St the day he and his mom moved in...my guess about 1961-62.
A great guy and friend...my memories...long bike rides following that new blue 10 speed bike with David on it leading the way, the first accomplished skateboarder in the hood, first with long hair, the only guy I know (ever) who could click his heels twice before landing....four of us played 2 handed touch football every day in Grades 7-8 at Connaught before school, at every recess, after lunch & before school...John Falkins, Greg Marshall, David and I.....David and John were the speedsters and we changed teams constantly ...all using a white pee-wee football we could catch and throw like the "pros'" . The games were always close and there was never a dispute that wasn't quickly resolved.
Such fond memories of a time when summers were endless and we were all truly carefree and happy!
I had chided David because we never ever saw his dad...his mom very tactfully asked to meet me and explained that David had lost his dad at a young age. I was sorry then but now know how cruel those comments were and now can imagine the hurt that I caused David by my insensitive comments.
I was a year older and a year ahead in school and we drifted apart. Still friends but more distant we eventually lost touch.
Greg Marshall succumbed to gangrene following a ski accident in Grade 10 Champlain and I don't know where John Falkins is....
I sure hope Greg and David are reconnecting right now.....and rehashing those happy carefree timeless moments we all once shared.
My sympathy, prayers and thoughts go to David's mom!

I grew up on Flora Street and went to Percy Street School with David in the 50s. I ran into him again, in the Federal Government, in the 80s. I recognized him immediately because he hadn't changed a bit. My condolences to his family and friends.
