David Francis Higgins

David Francis Higgins, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away in New York City on 2/25/2023.

David was born in Jersey City to Joan and Francis X Higgins on 9/11/1973. David grew up in Jersey City with five siblings until the family moved to Beachwood, New Jersey, in 1984. David was a 1992 graduate of Tom's River South High School.

David lived in New York City, he loved NYC and the people in it. He was especially passionate about befriending and helping those living on the streets and in shelters. David organized a project called "Operation Feed Somebody" on GoFundMe, and with the help of others, raised monies to purchase and distribute meals and clothes to those in need. On one of his many missions of meeting people on the street, he befriended a retired vet and organized the purchase of a wheelchair for him.

David also loved the 46th Street Clubhouse and was grateful for the help that they provided him during his time of need, and the life-long friendships that he made there.

David believed in paying it forward; he loved his community, friends, and family, and he inspired his friends and family to strive towards spreading kindness where they can. David will be dearly missed.

David was predeceased by his father and mother, Francis (Red) and Joan Higgins. He leaves behind his beloved son David F Higgins Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one brother, Michael (Christina) Higgins of Highlands, New Jersey; and four sisters: Kathy (Joseph) Saporito of Matawan, New Jersey; Joan Marie Higgins of Ocean Beach, New Jersey; Marybeth (Chet) Grembocki of St. Louis, Missouri; and Patricia (Jorge) Ramirez of Ortley Beach, New Jersey. Nieces and nephews: Lisa Higgins of Ocean Beach, New Jersey; Kyle Jewusiak of Englishtown, New Jersey; Olivia Saporito, New York, New York; Gabriella (Dimitri) Serrano, Keyport New Jersey; Mikayla and Garrett Grembocki of St. Louis, Missouri; Dylan Ramirez, Ortley Beach, New Jersey; and two great-nieces Christine and Audrey; and one great-nephew Jimmy Alexander; as well as many cherished cousins and friends.

A service will honor David on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at St. Elisabeth's Chapel by the Sea in Ortley Beach, New Jersey. http://stelisabethschapel.org/ In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the 46th Street Clubhouse, which meant much to David.
