HINDS _ The Honourable David Bertram Hinds, Q.C. Died peacefully at home, 26 December 2003. Survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Audrey June Brett; daughters Diane, Patricia, and Lesley (dec); sons-in-law Vlad Aleksandric and Norman Shearing; grandchildren Daniel and Rhys Aleksandric, Brett and Anna Shearing; one sister, Prudence Douglas; and extended family. Born May 4, 1927 at Goudhurst, Kent, England. He came to Canada with his parents, Marjorie and Bertram in September 1935. Following graduation from Chilliwack High School, he attended U.B.C. and obtained a B.A. degree in 1949, and a L.L.B. degree in 1950. He was called to the Bar in May 1951. David practiced law in Chilliwack, was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1971, a judge of the County Court of Westminster in 1974, a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1980, and a judge of the B.C. Court of Appeal in 1990, from which court he retired in 1999. Thereafter he was appointed to the Canada Pension Board. Throughout his life, David was involved in the community of Chilliwack. The Chilliwack United Church; president of the Kinsmen Club; served on the Chilliwack School Board; Bencher of the Law Society of B.C. (Life Bencher) and in retirement, a dedicated Rotarian. A Memorial Service will be held at Chilliwack United Church on Saturday 10 January, 2004 at 2:30pm. Reception to follow. If family or friends so desire, contributions to Chilliwack United Church Memorial Fund, Canadian Diabetes Society, or to a charity of one's choice, would be greatly appreciated.
