Life Story of Mr David Chien-Chiu Huang

David Chien-Chiu Huang was born in Chi-Tung, Kiangsu Province, China on July 26, 1920. He was the oldest son of Mr. Bing-Zhang Huang and Mrs. Jun-Shan Zhang, and had two younger brothers, Sun-Chiu (deceased in Taiwan), Chu-Chiu in Shanghai, and a sister Zhong-May in Nantong.


Upon completing Provincial Shanghai High School in 1939, Mr. Huang attended university in Kunming, Yunnan and graduated from National Southwest United University in Aeronautical Engineering 1943. He was a teaching assistant for one year at Chung King National Chao Tung University. In 1945, he graduated from the Air Force Mechanical School 12th Senior Class. He was assigned to Szechuan Chengdu Air Force Aircraft Manufacturing factory. After the war victory with Japan, Mr. Huang was assigned duty to Shanghai Jiang Wan airbase until the conflict between the Nationalist and Communist started. He was on the last plane that left Jiang Wan airbase in Shanghai on May 25, 1949 to relocate to Nationalist Taiwan with his brother Sun-Chiu.


Mr. Huang was married in 1948 to a hometown girl as pre-arranged by his family. In 1949, Kuang-Ming (Joseph) was born in Hsinchu. In 1951, Chung-An (Daniel) was born in Kaohsiung. But the good time did not last. At the early years of work in Taiwan as a public servant, daily living was challenging and hard on one meager income and Mr. Huang was often physically ill. Many factors caused the marriage break-up and with the help of his brother Sun Chiu, they provided parental duties for his two young sons.
Mr. Huang left the Air Force in June 1951 and joined the Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau, assigned to maintenance and repair of ship mechanics. In 1957, he joined Civil Air Transport (CAT) in Tainan, where he gained valuable experience on aircraft structure and maintenance requirements that prepared him for his career in the US aerospace industry.


Mr. Huang was always active in church activities in Taiwan and continued to practice his Christian faith till the end of his life. His faith kept him strong and guided him during difficult times. In 1965, he married a church member, Ms. Yun-Yu Lee.
Mr. Huang was offered employment by Lockheed, near Atlanta, GA and immigrated to the United States in May 1967, at 47 years of age. His work experience on aircraft designs also took him to St. Louis, MO where he worked for McDonnell-Douglas from 1970-1980. He relocated to Los Angeles in Aug. 1980, and worked for Hughes Aircraft until he retired in May 1991. He enjoyed family time with Daniel and the three grandchildren in California.


Mr. Huang relocated to Edmonds, Washington in October 1994 to provide assistance to Joseph with childcare and to enjoy his family life with his two grandsons. He and his wife Lee actively participated and served in the Evangelical Chinese Church in Lynnwood and the Chinese Senior Service of Snohomish County and made so many friends.


Mr Huang was called home to be with his God, his Savior and his wife on March 15, 2013 at 92 years of age. He will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
