David Hunter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2023.
David "Dave" John Cameron Hunter, 94, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, and brother, left this world peacefully to join his Lord and Savior on July 10th.

Dave was born on May 7, 1929, in Amherst, Pennsylvania, to parents James and Catherine Hunter, the youngest of five siblings. After growing up in New Jersey, where he made a name for himself as a high school wrestler, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Colorado Boulder. He was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant, Armor Division, from the United States Army Reserves. Dave married his adoring wife Teddy in 1953 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and they were married for 60 years until she went home to the Lord. They moved to Tallahassee in 1957, where they raised four sons. They spent most of those years shuttling the boys to football, baseball, and basketball practices and games across the city and state, and on their boat, the "Teddy Too". Faith and family were always the central focus of their lives, and instilled those values in their sons. The love Dave and Teddy had for their children was only matched by the love they expressed to their grandchildren, who were truly the light of their lives.

Dave retired after decades in upper management with Centel Corporation, the predecessor to Sprint Mobile. He and his family joined Faith Presbyterian Church shortly after its inception, and he eventually was ordained as an elder. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees, and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. Dave was also a proud member of both the Leon Lions and Lincoln Trojans Booster Clubs.

Dave is survived by his sons David (Deana, children Alie and Matthew) and Curt (Sara and Brett Jeffares, Megan, and Kelsey); and daughter-in-law Jeri Hunter (Todd and Mycah, children Lively and Cameron; and Caroline and Jotan Borms, son Isaac).

Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife Cecilia "Teddy" Hunter, and sons Todd Cameron Hunter, Sr., and Douglas James Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, PCA on Saturday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception immediately following in the Cafe.

Dave and the family will always be grateful for the love and care that the entire Big Bend Hospice family provided to he and his family for years. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Dave may be given to Big Bend Hospice.

David and Curt-gosh I already miss my Uncle Dave but know he´s with my Dad Jim Hunter (brother) and his sisters Daisy, Mae and Jean...and of course Aunt Ceil, Todd and Doug. What a reunion! I´m sure on the boat! So many wonderful memories...we all loved him and his fabulous humor! He and Barret had a special bond! Sending love and hugs, cousin Keli Cameron Hunter Barker, Bruce, Adriana and Barret.

Curt and David

We are so sorry for your loss and send condolences to your families.
I am your dad´s youngest Cameron cousin, Anne Bryson Cameron Stillings. I live in Barrington, RI.
My daughter, Sara, has already sent condolences. My nieces, Heather Cameron and Elizabeth Cameron also want to express their condolences too.
We all loved Cameron reunions which gave us a chance to visit with our large family who lived across the country.
