David Hurst Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 7 to Dec. 21, 2023.
David Hurst, a leader in the construction industry and the larger-than-life owner of Hurst Construction Company, passed away on December 6, 2023. He was 77 years old.

Born to Ernest and Freddie Hurst on August 13, 1946 in Corpus Christi, TX. He graduated from Skidmore Tynan High School and went on to attend Texas A&I in Kingsville.

David was a client-centered custom home builder whose impact on South Texas will endure for generations. His passion for crafting homes was only surpassed by his ability to weave captivating stories, earning him a reputation as a great storyteller among friends, colleagues, and clients alike.

David's dedication to his craft saw him build hundreds of distinctive homes, each a testament to his unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. His legacy lives on in the foundations he laid, the walls he raised, and the countless families who found solace and joy in the homes he created.

Beyond his professional endeavors, David's heart belonged to his cherished family. He was a loving companion to Cindy Hawkins and leaves behind a profound impact on his brother Ernest Jr and Ava Hurst, his longtime friend and caretaker Bridget Nance, and his children: Michelle Dean and Kelly Gilbert, Sheri Gallemore, and Lori and Robert Simmons.

His memory will forever be cherished by his grandchildren: Ashley and Donald Hall, Kyle Dean, Devyn Dean, Hunter Gallemore, Dakota Gallemore, Annabelle Simmons, Abbi Rose Simmons, and David Michael Simmons, as well as his great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Emily, Allison, and Reid.

In addition to his immediate family, David leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance for his bonus children, Lance and Amy Tindol, Leslie and Stephen Smejkal, and Chad Hawkins. Bonus grandchildren Victoria Martinez, and Aidan Tindol.

David Hurst will be remembered not only for the homes he built but also for the love he shared, the stories he told, and the lives he touched. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Friends were cordially invited to a visitation from five o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening on Monday at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria.

A graveside service was conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on the 12th of December at the Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, TX.

The family is deeply grateful that David was so well cared for by the amazing and loving staff at Gentle Hearts and Hospice of South Texas.

My condolences go out to the Hurst family. Sheri and I played volleyball way back in junior college and were roommates at Texas A&M. My memories of Sheri's dad was that he loved her very much and always ensured that she had what she needed. I have great memories of driving to Beeville to visit her father. While we were there, he made sure that she was safe and taking care of priorities with her care and at school. He was always joyful and happy around us and made me feel at home. He also supported us in having fun as we would take his boat to go skiing out on the lake in Conroe. I am so blessed to have been part of your father's journey. Prayers go out to your entire family because the pain of missing him will always be there but will get better. Always here for you, Love Melissa

He was my best friend for more years than I can remember
We went to lunch every day for over 15 years
We rode many miles on our Harleys, drank a lot of whiskey, swapped stories..... mostly true.
He built homes and I financed them
A true friend that always had my back
Friends don´t keep score and always has a place at each others table
Ride safe ole buddy
Me n u.... Grip to grip
Your friend Randy
