David KIRSCHNER Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal from May 30 to May 31, 2017.
KIRSCHNER, David William
January 25, 1954 – May 28, 2017
On Ascension Sunday, May 28, at the 'too soon' age of 63 years, Dave went to his eternal rest with the Lord. Our hearts are heavy, but knit together in love. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Iris; their six children, Kristy (Nelson) Sturge, David (Tina) Kirschner, Jessica (Chris) Gordon, Katharine Kirschner, Patty (Keegan) Thomas, and Rebecca (John) Vizza. He also leaves sixteen little bits of the light that shone in his eyes, in his sixteen grandchildren, Hailey, Keegan, Joshua, Kaylyn, Eliana, Nadya, David Samuel, Jonathan, Benjamin, Jack, William, Audrey, David Tanner, Gracelyn, Joanna and Katharine. Dave is also survived by his sister, Donna; and brothers, Rick and Terry. Dave was predeceased by his parents, David Charles Kirschner and Rita Molnar.
Dave was a man who walked with great faith, integrity, kindness, a sharp wit, and humility. He was born and raised in Peterborough, ON, and moved out west where he finally settled in Fort McMurray. Dave was an active member of the community that he loved for 35 years before relocating to Edmonton in 2013. Dave called Touchmark home after being diagnosed with the rare neurological disease Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA). He continued to live a fulfilling life thanks to the wonderful care of the Touchmark staff, and the daily visits from family. Many will fondly remember Dave and his legacy will live on.
Funeral Mass Friday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18407 - 60 Avenue, Edmonton with interment to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandhills Cemetery near Egremont. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Golden Years Society improving the quality of life for seniors in Fort McMurray.

In this past year since David's passing, his courage in the years of ill health were an inspiration to me as I have had to deal with some health issues of my own. Thank God there are people like David who light paths we all have to follow some day in one way for another. Thanks also to God who can take the pain and hardships of life and help us bring out some good. Yes David, rest knowing there are a lot of people who miss you.

Iris and family: Any of us who knew Dave remember his generosity of spirit and the fact he not only understood those who may hold differing opinions, but genuinely respected those differing views. He was and is respected for good reason. God bless you at this time.

Iris and family,
We know that Dave's spirit will live on; through those 'little bits of light' that embody the best qualities in a true gentle man. His presence will continue to be felt near and far by many.
At this time, we all share your sorrow and pay tribute to a man who built communities.
