David was born Aug. 7, 1950, at Munson Hospital. His parents were Charles V. and the late Dolores G. (Sladek) Klepac.
He was a graduate of Traverse City Central High School. From the age of eight, he carved a career as a mechanic. David worked 18 years at Cornillie Concrete, where he had many friends.
In 1970, David was united in marriage to Carolyn R. Lightfoot, who survives him. He is also survived by two children, David Alan (Bertha) and Amy Renee (Mike); and five grandchildren, all of Kingsley. Also surviving are his father, Charles Klepac of Traverse City; his siblings, Michael (Cecilia) Klepac of Portland, Jane Klepac and Mary Klepac, both of Gallup, N.M., and Charles Klepac III of Holt; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Lightfoot of Traverse City; brother-in-law, Thomas (Robin) Lightfoot of Holland; and also several nieces and nephews.
Some time ago, David filled out a form to donate his body to science at the University of Michigan. His desires have been followed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The Rev. Linda Reed is officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Father Fred Foundation.
The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City; www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.

Dave was a great friend of ours and we will miss him very much. He was always happy to see us and willing to help us with his extensive knowledge of everything. His son Dave Jr. has worked with us since the early 90's and like his dad has been a loyal and outstanding person to work with. We will keep their family in our prayers.
