David Arthur Knisely, 72, of Fairmont, passed from this life Monday (Nov. 2, 2009) at Fairmont General Hospital after a long illness.He was born in Grafton on April 3, 1937, the only child of the late Arthur and Wilhelminia Adlington Knisely.He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He graduated from Grafton High School where he excelled in both basketball and football. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army, just prior to the Vietnam era. He formerly worked at Sharon Steel and was a coal miner having worked at the Martinka mine. He was a member of the UMWA District 31. He most recently was a maintenance man at the Marion County Senior Center until he had a stroke 12 years ago.He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved to grow his vegetables in the summer, bowl and watch sports.Mr. Knisely is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Sheila Guthrie Knisely; his son, Robert Knisely of Fairmont; stepson, Wendell Shaver of Tennessee; stepdaughters, Nanette Shaver and Tammy Shaver, both of Fairmont; one granddaughter, Michole Bunner; eight step-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Michael Knisely.David did not wish to have any funeral home visitation. There will be a graveside committal service at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with full military honors.His family has requested that memorial contributions be made in his name to either the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.The Frey Home For Funerals has been entrusted with his arrangements. Sheila and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Popeye's passing. I know that he was a good man and a good father as well as a good friend to many. I will pray for all of you to get through this time of sorrow. If there is anything I can do, feel free to call me.

I really enjoyed working with popeye and also playing cards at his home.
Is the mirrow still there?

He will be missed. I was looking forward coming to fairmont this weekend for the reuion of sharon steel.

Dave was one of the first guys I thought about when hearing about reuion.
