GALION: David L. Lace, 77, of Galion, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion.

Born February 23, 1933 in Galion, he was the son of the late John and Delores (Lue) Walker.

Dave graduated from Galion High School in 1953 and was the long-time Editor of the Galion Inquirer, where he started as a reporter and worked his way up. He had a passion for reporting news fairly and honestly. He wrote many books including "Bravest of the Brave". He loved writing about Galion sports history and statistics and was an avid Galion Tiger and Ohio State University Buckeye fan. Dave loved his grandchildren and his pets and was an avid runner and fitness buff running many road races. He was an active member and supporter of the Galion Community Center-YMCA and coached Little Sox, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Marilee Lace of Emmetsburg, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Brian Church of Leesville; seven grandchildren, Chris (Stacey) Sharp, Ben Church and his fiance, Kylee Clamp, Kassie Church, Justin Church, Brianna Church, Jon Patrick Lace, II and Olivia Jean Lace; one great-granddaughter, Paige Sharp; one brother, Arthur (Loraine Smith) Lace of Akron; and his former wife, Elaine Forry.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, with Pastor Walt Keib officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion

Memorial contributions may be made to the Galion Community Center-YMCA, 500 Gill Ave., Galion, Ohio 44833 or to HomeCare Matters Hospice, P.O. Box 327, Galion, Ohio 44833.

Dear Lace Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I met David when I worked at McDonald's back in 2006 and talked to him quite frequently there. He was a remarkable man. I was lucky to have met such a nice man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
