David Alexander Luchko

Dave Luchko passed away peacefully after battling cancer
and Parkinson's disease in his characteristically quiet,
courageous, and stoic manner.
He will be lovingly remembered by Liz,
his wife of 43 years; four children,
Leisa Townshend, Michele (Fraser) Horne,
Tyler (Alby), and Aaron;
four grandchildren, Jacob and Liam Townshend,
Alex and Emily Luchko;
nine siblings, Victor (Dyan), Vivian, Diane, Pat,
George (Pam), RoseAnne (Ross) Wady,
Marvin (Donna), Jim, and Wayne (Laura);
in-laws, Jennifer Button and
John (Penny) Button; and ten nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents,
Annie and Peter Luchko.
Dave grew up on a farm just outside of Andrew
and he never lost his love for the country lifestyle.
He enjoyed exploring forest paths searching
for berries and mushrooms and tending
to the wonderful gardens he planted.
After graduating from the University of Alberta
with a degree in education,
Dave spent most of his teaching career
in Cold Lake nurturing and developing
the young minds of his students.
He had a passion for sports including hockey,
curling and golf and was a loyal fan of the
Edmonton Eskimos and Oilers.
He retired to Edmonton in 2001
and devoted his remaining years
to his family and his other passions.
Dave will be remembered for his love of family,
his wit, and his animated storytelling.
The family wishes to extend their sincere
thanks to Dr. Barton, the home care team,
and the caring and compassionate
staff at the Edmonton General 9Y Palliative care unit.
A service to celebrate Dave's life will be held
Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
at Memories Funeral Home,13403 St. Albert Trail,
Edmonton, Alberta.
