David Mathews

On Monday, July 4, 2022, David Mathews III of Fruitland Park, FL passed away at age 53. He was born in Fort Walton Beach, FL to David Mathews, Jr. and Dorothy Evelyn Stockwell Mathews. He graduated from Montverde Academy in Montverde, FL in 1987 and later received his Associate of Arts degree from Lake-Sumter Community College. David had a passion for Native American history and archaeology. He loved searching for Native American artifacts, especially arrowheads, and amassed an impressive collection that he treasured. He even took up knapping to create arrowheads, crosses, and other items from stone for many people. He loved fishing, hunting, being outdoors, and had a deep love and respect for animals. He was an avid music lover and enjoyed playing the guitar. He was known for his sense of humor, his infectious laughter, and his kind, compassionate, and empathetic spirit. David was preceded in death by his father David Mathews, Jr. on December 8, 2021. He is survived by his mother Dorothy Evelyn Mathews, sister Deana Ethridge Brown (Scott), niece Sara Froelich Friedel (Jonathan), uncle Asa Clyde Mathews (Diana). His special cousin and friend Eve Black Venters (Ronald) and many other cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He is also survived by his special Pet friends Sadie (Lab), Sam (Lab) and Pretty Girl (Rescue Cat). No memorial service is immediately planned.
