I worked with Dave at the VA and will always remember him fondly. I admired his artistic talent, and shared his love for Church choir singing. His daily exercise was going to the 6th floor for blood drawing, two or three stairs at a time! Said it kept him in shape. In 1986 I was the new kid and he was sort of a mentor. Taught me alot. I miss the Christmas notes we exchanged until a few years ago. We talked about my niece and his grandaughter-- they were about the same age. I recall he proudly showed me pictures.
My deepest sympathy to all his family and loved ones.

I knew Dave from St. John's Church in North Guilford, where he would always sing "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?" on Good Friday. Several years later, I heard another man sing the same thing in a very operatic manner, and I sat there thinking, "I wish Dave were here singing this. He is so much more genuine and heartfelt." So I wrote him a note and told him so. He was very happy. Say nice things to people while they are here to hear it -- don't wait until it is too late. It was a blessing to know him.

Dear Mrs. Middleton,
At the prompting of Frances Butts, I want to let you know that I have the deepest sympathy for you and yours. I know your husband from the VA hospital where I met him when I was a student in the laboratory. I always remembered him. I know that you have experienced quite a bit of sorrow, but I pray that the Lord will find a way to encourage you and sustain you.
Sincerely,
Carol Walker
