Miller, David Richard

8/14/50-12/27/2015

Dave really loved his cats. He talked about them all the time and was a great pet owner.

David Richard Miller of Albuquerque, 65, died suddenly at his home in Albuquerque on Sunday, December 27th, 2015. He was a native of Oakland, California, and lived and grew up in Sacramento, California, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Falls Church, Virginia. He lived in Lexington Park, Maryland. He traveled the world in the US Navy.

Dave was the long time Safety Officer at the Albuquerque International Sunport. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served on the USS America during the Viet Nam War Era. He was a specialist in ejection seats and egress systems and took great pride in his work. He worked for many years as a civilian at the Patuxant Navy Test Pilot School in Maryland. He was a Quality Assurance Inspector for Safety prior to signing on with the City of Albuquerque in 2000 where he was a respected and loved employee. He was known for making excellent cheesecakes and Pineapple Upside Down Cakes for dinners, parties and sometimes just for fun. Dave was a life long bachelor. And did we mention he really loved his cats? All cats big and small, house cats, alley cats, pedigreed cats and big Bengal Tigers.

Dave was an avid bowling competitor for years. He loved taking long road trips across the country to visit old friends every year. He was an aficionado of fine wines, which he gladly shared wherever he went. He was a very active member of American Legion Post 72 in Albuquerque. He was a well-known customer at St. Claire's Winery and Bistro in Albuquerque.

His parents, James RR Miller and Alice Spracklen Miller, preceded Dave in death. His sisters, Bobbi Baca of Albuquerque, and Caryl Miller of Kimball, Nebraska, survive him. He loved his niece and nephews, Adam Valentiner of Las Vegas, NV, Justin Baca of Camillus, NY, and Noelle Currell of Fort Collins, Colorado. He doted on his grand nieces and nephews, Simon and Finn Baca of Camillus, NY and Katy and Alex Currell of Fort Collins and Ava and Olivia Valentiner of Las Vegas, Nevada.

David's ashes will be interred at the Santa Fe, National Cemetery next spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in David's honor to Animal Humane Association.

I know Dave from my volunteer work at the Sunport, information desk of the Albuq Convention and Visitors Bureau. He was always very happy, big smile, friendly, funny, interesting, etc, etc. He always had a picture to share, and he always brought the volunteers a snack bar or piece of fruit, always!!! Such a sweet and kind man, and he will be missed by many.
